Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

Woe is me. I have been abused. I made a pool for my ducks. They don’t like it.
I then decided to wash some dirty chickens, since the ducks didn’t mess up the water, and I thought maybe if it was a little muddy they would like it. I was right. Poor Betty though!

I have stinky ducks that don't bathe. The stinkiest is my previously psychotic muscovy drake, O Pato, who has been a sweetheart this year. I only saw him voluntarily get in the pool and bath once in 2022. I hose him down when he is ripe. I haven't seen him in the pool once this year. Today, I could hear him beating his wings. I went to see and he was dipping his head in the pool, flicking a minutia of water onto his back and then beating his wings and dipping his body to the ground. I decided he should go into the pool and so picked him up and held him in the pool while he beat his wings [and kicked a bit!] He got straight out when I let him go, and didn't return and bath properly.

Next stinky boy is O Pato's pekin drake side-kick, Ping [aka Pingy Wingy]. Pingy actually loves water, but he is so bonded to O Pato that he rarely gets near the pool for long enough to get in and bathe. I plunged him into the water next and ensured his undercarriage had a good rub down in the water -- he is special needs and cannot reach his undercarriage and his vent area to wash, so Mama has to clean him. He often stays in the pool after I have washed him and has a good bath. Not today. He was out like a shot and over to O Pato, who was staying out of arm's reach.

Third stinky boy is Butter who voluntarily washes about once a month -- even in icy cold weather. This boy doesn't like rain, which we have had a lot of this year, and goes back into the shed and sulks in there when it is raining. By comparison with the first two, he wasn't yet ripe, so I let him be.

The "cleanest" of my boys is Daffy. Those of you with Pekins that live in water all day will not understand this, but Daffy bathes about every 2 weeks. He has a very long splashy bath when he gets in but that isn't "frequent". I let him sit on my arm today and he didn't smell too bad so I let him be.

I also have a beagle who hates water. Did I do something wrong in a previous life? None of my pets like bathing. My husband insisted on bathing the beagle this morning, to her disgust. Photo from when husband bathed her only 2 weeks ago. Husband is a clean freak

When my dogs get a bath, they get to sit on my husband's lap and I get to work around it.
My boy dog (Jasper) honestly isn't really a fan of bath time, but I can convince him it's not that bad. My girl dog (Red) shakes, trembles, and otherwise acts like the water is terrifying... So she is the reason for the dad cuddles. My dogs weigh 75 and 65 lbs... And love to play in hose water when it's not bath time. Warm bath water is scurry!🤣😂

I was tired of the duck abuse so I decided to add a gosling 😂
Stella is a sweetheart and just wants to be right beside me at all times
If I’m sitting she is on my lap
Trying to get my duck house cleaned tonight and she jumps on my lap and head dives onto my arm
Well a 30 min job took me well over an hour having to move a little ar a time while she sat on my lap
I actually went to my friends to pick up Ancona ducklings and somehow came home with ducklings and Stella
I’m only keeping a few Ancona’s the rest are sold I just brought them back for my friend
