Dixie padded in, looking tired and heartbroken. She sat down. Though she didn't voice it, a first for her, she was both shocked and sorrowed by the news. Zeb sat in the corner, looking pale, staring at the floor. "Kids... Your Aunt.. Was taken away by the dogcatcher humans," Dixie said softly. "We don't know where she is, now."

Jet, still looking a bit confused, seemed to grasp what his mother had said. He looked to Indy, whose wide eyes betrayed his alarm at the situation. He seemed to want to do something, but what could be done? His brown eyes moved from Jet to his parents almost questioningly.

Minty, meanwhile, sat by Zebedee. She didn't know the young she-dog very well, but she wanted to try to comfort her. She didn't seem surprised at the news, only because they had overheard that Kinzy was gone. As a matter of fact, she looked relieved, for she had had the same thought that Indy had in wondering whether Slate had something to do with it. He couldn't've under those circumstances, so it was just a coincidence. Looking to Zeb quietly, she frowned, trying to judge the younger she-dog's expression.

Raven sighed. "Mom, Kinzy was badly injured by the car that hit her. I was there, before I decided to come home. Teal had nothing to do with it. He wanted to help but could, really. Being so injured, you know," she added.

Kinzy's human's husband had been exactly what Kinzy hated in humans--their weakness to things that changed them. Kinzy's male human, kind by day, changed drastically in demeanor by night, often smelling of something strong and terrible, consumed from bottles. The dogs she owned were, indeed, as afraid of the human as Kinzy had become. But unlike the brave she dog, they just dealt with it, afraid to try and leave.

But Kinzy was different. They had all sensed it the day she arrived. And her determination to leave that place had only grown since the day she had met the man. Tonight was the last night she would deal with him.

At her side was only one other dog, a kind and gentle-souled young male collie named Karst. The two slipped into the yard, Karst less than willing to do so, following behind Kinzy with much indecisiveness as he did.

Kinzy padded up to the hole, pushing away a few branches as she did. She had learned that the humans were usually quick to spot holes of the sort and fill them. "Go," she said quickly.

"Wha-? M-m-me?! What if I get stuck?" he yelped.

"Just shut up and go!" Kinzy snapped, shoving him a bit. "Okay, okay, don't bite me," Karst muttered. And he slipped under as well. Kinzy followed and the two proceeded to run hard and fast, just wanting to be away from that house.

Raven sighed. "Mom, Kinzy was badly injured by the car that hit her. I was there, before I decided to come home. Teal had nothing to do with it. He wanted to help but could, really. Being so injured, you know," she added.

Mystery gave Raven a warm look, though he didn't smile in spite of this. Raven was always the first to defend Teal, even when Mystery, himself, had been too quick to judge the reformed criminal. He looked to Dixie. "She's right. I'll bet Teal is beating himself up about this, too," he said, a somewhat sad note in his voice at the mention of his adoptive brother.

Mystery looked grim, and wanted nothing more than to drop everything and go find his brother. However, he looked to Dixie, and somehow he felt she needed him more at that moment. But what could they do? Kinzy could be at the pound, but then, she could also have been taken away like Mint. And Shuk had not been there to guide them in the direction that the vehicle had gone like he was the last time... He looked almost as helpless as Teal had felt.

((...I couldn't think of anything to do... ))
