He had no idea what he did to me when he killed her... the horror, the nightmares, the sad dreams... and when he was fighting you--and winning---I just knew I was going to lose you...Harli froze. Her thoughts swirled. She couldn't stop them. Closing her eyes, she tucked her head under his neck. "Jargo, I-I'm, I'm so sorry. I was horribly rude, and was being so stupid."
Melanie felt her head begin to nod, she lowered it, and nuzzled each one of her pups before falling into a deep sleep. There, she dreamed. The image of Banner's face returned to her mind. His scream of agony, as Everest punctured his throat. His last words to her, his body: bloody, battered, weak and torn. Everest's mocking face. Her last words to Banner. The last time she saw his face. These thoughts swirled in her mind, filling her with agony. Her eyes snapped open, and she uttered a scream of fright.
Rex stood in the shadows of the entrance of the den, his yellow eyes gleaming; he looked very much like a demon. He stood there, watching Melanie, thinking.
