Surviving Minnesota!

I want Welsummers too. Saw some on sale on Craigslist yesterday at 2.50 each. Americans also. Want some. Have enough. Wait til 2017. Hard to do. I want immediate gratification. Too old for all this. Should know. Slow down. Patience. Don't have to have my own way.

I'm surprised they were that cheap. I assume all Ameraucanas in the feed stores and on CL are EE's. I think the Welsummer pullets I saw were $10. I thought that was even a bit too reasonable. Who knows.

My chickens haven't gone after my hostas yet. They seem to dislike them. You must have good ones :)

Feel better!

Thanks BogTown - you are too kind. Wouldn't it be wonderful to curl up with a quilt on the couch. Not happening. Working - and getting stuff done!

Wow...2.50 Welsummer chicks?! or Eggs.... Ameraucana's as well? I wanted Ameraucana's purebred. But Minnie had her rooster in the pen with a mix of girls and we got EE's. That's okay. They'll be some nice girls just the same and I'll still have a colorful carton. fingers crossed we get some hens out of the hatch here this spring.

My chickens just hide in the hostas and sometimes trample them a bit. Have not seen them eat them. The deer like to browse off my hostas though. buggers.

I would say that Feed stores are definitely mislabelled Ameraucana's and are actually EE's. Typically. If you look in the stock tanks and see a varied myriad of colors and chipmunk strips....EE's.

I would venture though that breeders advertising Ameraucana's on Craig's List should know better how to label their birds. But I'm sure that varies person to person on CL. LOL. So there are some color questions you could ask. Black, Lavender? That might tell you if true Ameraucana or not.

I'm sorry it's Ustream. It's a live camera feed from a 1st grade classroom. So go to ustream.com then in the search bar put in wha-1st-grade-chicken-eggs

There's some pips showing in the welsummer eggs and the EE's are also showing signs of pips. Silkie eggs have not pipped just yet. And the Bogtown special is saying, "HURRY UP YOU GUYS!!!" Kicking them around. LOL.
My grandparents have a lake home on Rush Lake near Perham!

Ralphie, I must apologize to you. I laughed heartily as I read your account of the construction table assembly!

I would buy chicks from Sand Hill Preservation. They will likely not be show winners, but they would be of good enough quality to enter in a show. I believe that any breed they do not think is up to breed standard would be identified as such in their description.

I have not attempted to hatch any chicks so far this season and may wait til July when the temp outdoors is likely to be reliably above freezing. My hens are laying well and knock on wood I have none that have gone broody thus far.

It is cool & cloudy today but not raining. My wife and her crew only got a couple hours in yesterday before they got rained out.

Was that you in the ustream video?

Awesome! I can't believe 21 days has already come for those little ones. Fingers crossed for more healthy chicks.

I saw a lady on CL selling Welsummer pullets near me. My finger is still twitching over the mouse. Must....wait....until....next....year.

In my defense, I thought it was only going to be 1 1/2 - 2 hours tops. Then, Holm told me where he really lives. I think what he meant to tell me was Canada. I had to get out of bed early and everything. I'm pretty sure DH thinks I'm an idiot. However, Jameson and I went fishing on the way home and hit up some antique stores. Plus, we got to hang out with all of Holm's cool animals.

Holm will say anything to make a sale. Just last winter he was selling Ice to Eskimos an Life Jackets to the people living on the Mountains around Denver. He told the Eskimos with global warming this would be the last Ice they would ever see and the Mountain People the rising Oceans would mean they would have to take a boat to their Mailboxes....

So telling you he only lived a few miles down the road is minor to him.
