Surviving Minnesota!

These are chicks from Ralphie....I am secretly hoping they ARE roos. Then it would yield another trip to visit Ralphie with my 9 year old son.....he has been making a list of questions for his 4H project to ask an expert. Figuratively speaking I could kill 2 birds with one stone....Ralphie could feel the pain of educating an inquisitive 9 year old and I could replenish my SS chick stock.

Excellent planning!

We moved the SS and golden comets from the shed to the new 'Ralphie coop' today. This is the first time i have handled each of them since they have grown their full feathers and look what i found! One of them has muffs?!?

That is going to be a cool looking bird! Looks like an EE? Muffs just add to the character.

I have walnut grafts budding . Hope they grow . Butternut , Carpathian and heart nut on black walnut .

I have pear budding on hawthorn . I read it would work . So a quick pear tree in the woods for wildlife .

Butternut should grow up north . Ray Hauck has a black walnut at the lake . Pushing the limits there but it is alive .

My haskap / honey berries are growing really well .

My carmine Jewel cherry is growing good . A U of Saskatchewan introduction .

Anyone hear of or try the Evans cherry tree up north . A Canadian sour cherry believed to be a seedling of Montmorency . Also known as Bali here . Seems a start was smuggled into the USA and renamed Bali after the guys daughter . Often referred to as Evans / Bali here .
I planted Bartnuts (sp?)(cross between butternut and heartnut-supposed to be hardy for mid Minnesota) many, many years ago. They die down every winter, they come back from the roots so they are still alive but will never produce anything as it is always new growth.
I have some Evans cherries in my yard, they grow real well in our area.

aren't those spose to be on the top of the head? LOL
Muffs are on the cheeks, tufts are on the top of head

Does anyone know where I could find some adult silver duckwing Phoenix bantams and silver duckwing OEGB's?
