Surviving Minnesota!

So as soon as I am done here at work, I am headed home to finish my coop!! Does anyone have any suggestions on a complete solar powered system that would power a small hot wire fence around the coop and maybe a tank de-icer in the winter? I have a feeling my one horse is going to be a real butt head when it comes to messing with the chicken run. I plan to grow mint and lemon balm in the run (wired off from the chickens) and I am afraid my horses will try and push the run in to get to the greenery.... plus a hot fence would deter predators too

but I want it to be solar powered. I am dumb when it comes to electrician work so it will have to be a simple hook up system....anyone have any suggestions?

Amazing!

BC, I need to know what time you gave that ovation at?

Did you stay up late or did you get up early?   I need to know if you are trying to beat Ivie and myself for the early morning post.

Building fence later today. First off I am going to Svea Hill Cemetery to visit my  Great-Great-Great Grand parents.  That's right 3 greats on there..... My family has been in this area a long time.

The WWD wants to go visit the reigning High Witch tomorrow. So we will be going to the Wicked Witch of the South's home. I am thinking I should stop by Kloppers and grab some garlic, just in case.

I am thinking I am done with BA hatching for this year. SS too. I need to count how many I have for replacements. I might do one more round of them.  I will keep trying to hatch PC's but I need to get a PC egg to do that. Broody little b.....Buggars.....  Whew I almost said a bad word there. That would be so unlike me.

The turkey hen that is still laying eggs was lying down in front of the Toms from inside her fence yesterday. So I put JJ in the fence with her. He immediately did his duty, but he had to fight off the BA rooster. I helped run him off for JJ.   I left JJ in the pen for about 3 hours.  When I opened the door JJ came strutting over all proud of himself and walked right out the door. like "I am done here, my work is over, now let me out"... He is such a cool bird.

He has started a new thing, he  gobbles when I hold him. If other people are trying to pet him or talk to him. My Cousins are here and he gobbled at them constantly, while I held him. When I let him down he gobbled less, but he strutted around our feet for 15 minutes or so before rejoining the common turkeys.

We just wrapped up at the farmers market. Sold out in 3 hours and people were lining up asking when we would have more. I love it.

I would love to have you drop by ralphie but I'm on my way up to Delano to visit some friends today. The garlic isn't quite ready anyways :)

You should be able to find a plug and play solar fencer system at almost any farm store. Just be sure to ground the fencer well!

Friends don't let friends near the Wicked Witch of the South without garlic!

Kloppers what are you selling the eggs for now?

Trap shoot was good. DS is in a bit of a slump but the team took 2nd overall so that was good. He hAd some beautiful left cross body shots. So I was quite proud of him even though he's hard on himself.

Lucy the BLRW went into the broody coop to give Dixie another egg to hatch. Funny bird. Loretta is doing great and so are June and Patsy. They are sleeping often in the brooder. So so cute. Stopped at l & m in bemidji. Quite a few private orders. Not much extra for public sale. I've found the chick bins sold out this year. The chicken craze rolls on....

I am officially down with track for the season!!

Yesterday at varsity regionals I got 6th in the 300m hurdles, and the wind was horrible, everyone was slower then usual. And in the 100m hurdles me and my friend Morgan tied for 8th place bad I PRed in it. I didn't qualify for state but I will hopefully get their next year as a freshmen.

Today I will take all the ducks down to the creek for a swim. Since they've all been down there separately.

I am going to sweep out the rest of the coop, and put wood chips except where the ducks sleep in it.
I need to start working with the cochins, and fluffy some more. They're ready but still need some work.
I am going to go an egg hunt and find where the chickens are hiding there eggs!! Yesterday there was only 6 in the nest boxes!! I usually get 24-30

I will move the silkies into an outdoor cage so that I cam try and break them being broody, or I will put Stew with them, and they can hatch some, buff silkies and buff x blue silkies that I will sell.

I am going to have to sell Iggy. I was really starting to like him but I have to many roosters. I may also sell my Mille fleur to my aunt since I don't have a need for him, and then I will limit my rooster number even more.

And I have this feeling that Stew, my silkie rooster, needs to go before our Peach Tree Party, and family reunion. He is starting to get aggressive, and it worries me that he will attack someone he doesn't know..

@MNChickMom, here's a few pictures of my SS trio. They don't stop moving, so I got what I could! I have one that is pretty white around the face. I know zero about SS, so whether this is typical as they grow I don't know. They're hatchery stock. They're 6 going on 7 weeks old.
