My Mille Fleur OEGB hatched out 7 chicks yesterday and this morning! It will be fun to watch them grow up!
And the duck eggs that I thought would hatch Sunday started last night with one making a external pip! Can't wait for ducklings!![]()

The white one has pretty wing feathers
Awesome! What breed are they? I've never incubated duck eggs before, the ducks are doing that themselves. I hope they do okay! My two broody hens don't mind getting off the nest for water a few times a day too!I'm putting a few duck eggs in lockdown when I get home from work. I'm excited and nervous because I heard they're hard to incubate. I have two broodies sitting on eggs now, but one is quick to get up when I'm around. She sucks at being broody
I also have some horrible pigeon pictures I'm going to post later. You can kind of tell they're pigeons! The closer I got to the guy's place, the creepier DH told me I'm looking. I'd be more than happy if someone had questions about my birds.....DH just doesn't get it.
Lol
2 week old chicks can fly too! At least flighty breeds like OEGBs can. I think they will be happy to have more space!HUH!? Didn't know 30 day old chicks could fly.....surprise, surprise....had an escapee this morning during feeding time....One of my Barred Rocks (which I think is the same one that has tried everyday this week to escape) finally made it up and over the brooder wall when I lifted the top off! Then he realized all his buddies were still inside and he FREAKED! Running back and forth along the brooder wondering what the heck just happened??? Boy did he squeal when I swooped him up and tossed him back in!
This is true comedy folks, you can't pay enough money to get such entertainment!!! I HAVE TO GET THEM OUT TO THE COOP!!! (it's almost complete)![]()
No free rangers....I wonder about the insect pollinators. Not many bees around. Our apple trees (4 of them) do well with pollination. Can I assist in pollination of blueberries? (Break off a twig and swirl the flowers around into each other. I overheard this at a greenhouse seminar for apples? As relates to blueberries, if the plant has a large number of flowers but produces little fruit there could be a number of issues. Do you have insect pollinators to effect pollination?
If the fruits get started but disappear before ripe it may be due to free range birds (chickens, guineas or wild). There may be some disease which is causing the berries not to develop?
My only problem is with free range fowl. they will eat the berries long before they ripen.
