A neighbor used to grow it . I get volunteers .A little....I think it was used in Chinese medicine for fevers?
If you had ducks you would see that a lot! That's not including your second sentence btw.![]()

On single combs from rose combs . Those pop up because breeders in the know keep that gene in the flock to improve fertility on the roosters . Pure rosecomb roosters in Wyandotte often have fertility issues .

I was going to ask if the Wyandottes can have different combs within the same color breed? My GLW girls (I have 2) one has the pea comb I think its called and the other has a single comb????? could one be a mix of some sort or is this a normal occurrence?
Most of what I know was learned the hard way . In the case of rose / single comb . I bought a trio of silver penciled wyandotte from someone who got them from Urich . So good stock . Never got a fertile egg . Knew then why they sold them . I could get fertile eggs from the hens if I used another rooster . So I did some research and found that info . So then I knew why single combs pop up . Breeders do not like for everyone to know these tricks . I like to share info .WOW What don't you know!!
I have a CLB rooster with a rose comb. I have been trying to figure out where it came from. I was thinking injury or frostbite ,but it is a young rooster so that made no sense.
I am assuming this just popped up from something used in the past to make the CLB's. Am I right?
The bird is a perfect bird other than the comb. I have decided to make soup of it because of the comb. If it is bred would the rose comb come through to offspring or is it recessive?
My breed separation is very secure so I know it is not a crossbreed.
