Most of what I know was learned the hard way . In the case of rose / single comb . I bought a trio of silver penciled wyandotte from someone who got them from Urich . So good stock . Never got a fertile egg . Knew then why they sold them . I could get fertile eggs from the hens if I used another rooster . So I did some research and found that info . So then I knew why single combs pop up . Breeders do not like for everyone to know these tricks . I like to share info .

I am trying to put rosecomb on my Legbar . Rosecomb is dominant . Hmmm maybe you have a new recessive . Could survive the winter I think . Another breeder is already doing this . Have some rosecomb brown leghorn chicks growing . Since Leghorn already have rosecomb and Leghorn is in the Legbar it might fly .

Very interesting. If you want I will spare the "rose combed" rooster and you can take him home with you.

I will get you a picture. the comb is just weird. I was just going to use him for soup.


Other than the comb I think he has great confirmation.

Alright.  We were going to name our new Rooster RJ!  Ha.  Short for Roger Jr.  I wonder if it will get too confusing on the thread.  I'll have to talk to the kids about it.

Then maybe he'll take after my RJ! If he did you'd have a good rooster!
Mine stands for Ralph Junior. RJs father drowned 2 weeks before RJ hatched

Again I messed up by posting on other threads first...

I hope I get a lot done today, not sure if I will. I get too easily distracted.

I set up my kitchen on the deck yesterday in case my garden gets enough veggies to can. I am going to try it out today.
My mouth is watering at the thought of my deck dinner!


Pork Liver and onions!! (is there anything better?)
Small acorn squash baked in the grill (for the WWD)
White sweet potatoes with cinnamon butter
Heavy crusted peeling baked potatoes (with butter)
Corn meal muffins....
I have not decided on or if there will be veggies... (I had planned mix veggies with lima beans but we all know how that went)

We will never eat it all, but the chickens will love the leftovers.

I have tentatively decided on my "new" fufu breed for next year.

I am asking for your input into them, I do not know much about them. I am trying to pick a heritage breed off the threatened or endangered list.

The tentative choice is::::: Trumpets playing........


Silver Duckwing Yokohama...


The bad part is I am stuck starting with hatchery stock. Hopefully I can improve upon them with time. Cackle is the hatchery I am looking at. I have never bought from them before so input on them is needed too..

Good morning all.....dark clouds are brewing here on the North Shore.... which means I will get nothing done on the greenhouse

so we are going to take a run to Duluth to get some parts for my bike, Duluth Harley Davidson has a 15% off deal going on right now........need some highway pegs. I'M GOING TO STURGIS!!!!!

ralphie.....had to look that breed up .... WOW! Just saw that Pure Poultry in Freemont WI is hatching them? But....I could be wrong (I've been wrong before)

Ralphie save that rosecomb rooster . I will take him . I saw that odd legbar post but have no clue what caused that color . Seems to be recessive since none of the cockerels show it .

Fighting trailer wiring . Hate trailer wiring . Put in all new and still not working right . Going to have stick to it today . Heat or no I got it to do . Crunch time . I got 1 to work but weak . So poor connections . Time to move it into the shade with a big fan blowing on me . Going to hit 90 today .

Maybe solder connections instead of those blue clam shell splicers . Already redid ground connections on truck and trailer .

I will get a picture of it for you, I am not even sure it is a pure rose comb. I do now it appears to be a comb that would be not get frostbite.



I have to rewire a couple of trailers too. .I also hate doing it. I am going to try running the wire through conduct but I doubt that will make it last any longer...

We have 83 here now and it is 71% humidity, I think storms loom.
