Surviving Minnesota!

This is what I woke up to....

The apps are no longer stuck in a cage in the coop. I brought them up to our house, which is at least 500 feet away from the coop, and on a hill. They are now wandering around the house eating grasshoppers!

Looks like you live in beautiful country sans trees though....   Makes me want to go for a horse back ride seeing that ridge behind you.

Its really nice horseback country. It's as close to the badlands as you can get without being in the badlands as my grandpa describes it. I didn't have to rake though!! My older sister did!!

Break time.. We are building next years breeding pens.

93 degrees is for the birds!! This is Minnesota give me some 60s!

Lucky!
I found some chicken tractor coop plans that are 10x8 and cost less then 500 dollars. And like usual they had some unnecessary stuff, that I wouldn't need, so there the price would go down.
So I will try to convince my dad to build 2 of those.

I almost squished a silkie today

Lucky would be if I could have stayed outside and worked more than 40 minutes. I put on new clothes just before going back out. Mine are soaked again. I cannot work outside very long in this heat. It is worse than 30 below. I would try it naked, but I do not want to scare the chickens...

I agree with this, it should never get above 80 in minnesota. terrible! out there trying to make it a little cooler for the ladies. I'm dripping! icky. I have to hook up hoses for my gardens... maybe that can wait.

I think i'll find some inside chores. plenty of those around here.

Jerry, here are the pictures of my Creamer with the rose comb. I know it is not really a rose comb either. I have no idea what I would call it if not rose though.

You can see he has huge white ear lobes, The barring is not as bad as the picture shows with me holding him. He was not really into a photo session. He has a little more chestnut in the hackles than I like but he is not bad. If not for the comb I would consider keeping him as a 3rd or 4th back up.

Well, maybe not I have betters...
