Surviving Minnesota!

After my trip I have made an inventory and am refining my hatching plans.

I am going to cut down on CLB's. I have 3 roosters and 10 hens. These are all from Heidi. of the 10 hens, 1 is not the quality I want to breed. She will be going into the EE pen soon.

I am thinking of advertising the 2 roosters and 4 hens. That would get me down to 5 hens and a rooster, more than enough to breed. I may not know show quality birds, but I am pretty sure of the one I think is not. It is too dark for my liking and has no crest. I like the crest!

I have one EE rooster, I think he is a son of Ole. He is dark though and has a very l tail. He has a good size body for a young EE.
I will breed him to some EE and the low quality Creamette.

Ed will be put with my future girls from EJB, for pure Chanticlers.

I have 4 BA hens and one BA Rooster, I will be breeding them and building a breeding pen for them.

I will try to hatch some eggs from King George and the British gals ( speckled Sussex ) if they ever lay an egg. These are nice birds BUT are hatchery birds. They are still pretty though and sweet hearts, (excluding King George who is a belly Button)

I have Bert and his gals which I hope will give me a ton of CX Toads broilers. I hope to hatch these about 10 a week so I can stagger some processing.

I have one rooster (one of Bert Jr's colored half brothers that will remain with the Guinea hen on Death Row to try and get some guinea Chicken hybrids. One of Bert's half brothers will be turned loose to protect the layers. I doubt I will hatch any of them.

I will be buying CX's from Hoover for a camp day the number is still up in the air. Those I will sell at cost again to Camp day participants. I am thinking we need a BBQ and party after Camp Day if I get a shed cleaned out.

That is chicken plans for now. I have no idea what I will do with all the chicks. Hopefully someone will want them. I just like hatching them. I know I could have sold more last summer. Hopefully, I will get my NPIP stuff done and not feel so guilty selling chicks.

NOW for turkey plans. I did an inventory of turkeys today.
I have 11 hens and 9 Toms.

I have JJ and Ethel my Rusty Slates.
I have 8 self blue hens, I think I went overboard on them.
Only 1 blue slate and 1 blue red bronze hen.

I will be going to Porter's to see what I want to breed. JJ will be my main tom because of his bb Dd Rr genes. I am not sure which others to keep.
I have 3 blue slate toms BB Dd
2 self blue toms BB DD
1 lavender edged Bourbon Red bb DD rr
1 rusty black Bb dd Rr
1 rusty Lavender Bb DD Rr

I want to get as many color variations as I can. I am willing to part with self blue hens and any Tom other than JJ and sidekick if any of you want some let me know. I put the genotype next to them so you can play with the outcomes at Porters if you want.

Egg Count today
CLB's ZERO
all others 9

Not that I want to show up @Bogtown Chick 's beautiful Christmas tree, but I though you all might enjoy the tree I slaved over to put up last year (this years tree is not up yet, so i'm unable to show you that), but it will probably be similar to last years... For your viewing pleasure:

Is that redneck enough Ralphie? Hahahaha
