Hellooo! I'm new to the site, but I live in central mn and want to know more about raising chickens at home, so here I am! Raising backyard chickens just recently became legal in my city, so I'm super excited to possibly get into it. Do any of you know of a good place to purchase chickens in mn? I can only have up to 4 hens legally, and all of the popular companies that ship chicks have minimum orders of around 25, which wouldn't work.
I know where you could get some!!!
Welcome to the thread, and welcome to BYC..
Central Minn is such a big place can you give us a better idea?
I m glad to see a city is letting you have chickens. Do you want one breed or 4? Does it matter? Are you looking for Fufu's or regular chickens? A fufu is the poodle of the chicken world. ( except better behaved and a lot cuter).
I am heading to Willmar on Tuesday morning, (from Zimmerman) if you wanted some and are close to that route I could bring you a couple. I cannot promise pullets on young ones, I just cannot tell. I have some older ones, I do better on sexing them, I am right about 50% of the time on them...
I have so much to do today to catch up on what I did not get done yesterday with our trip to Holm's. I have to see how Lizzie is handling imprisonment, At least she cannot get further than 16 feet from her nest now.
I also plan to spend an hour with a Mike's watching Margaret and the tree babies.
I had a guy call me on Friday wanting 5 day old Speckled Sussex chicks. I had told him about Margaret hatching hers, he asked to let him know if I had any to sell. After waiting about 16 hours I looked into the tree and saw only 4 chicks. I called the guy back and told him I only had 4 and could not take them from her when that was all she had....It was about 2 hours later she brought them out of the tree and had 11! I have no idea where she hid them. I have tried to call the guy back to sell him 5 and I cannot get ahold of him. His "voice mailbox" is full....
I also worry he will think I am a liar if all of a sudden I have chicks to sell. I doubt he will believe me when I say she hatched them way back in a hollow tree and I could only see 4...Oh well.. that's life.
