Surviving Minnesota!

My little no-fluffed White sport died this morning. I am not sure why, but a non-fluffed bird does not seem to make it no matter how warm I try to keep them. I am now down to 9 White Sports.

I am so sorry Ralphie.

X2 Ralph on the white sport. Those Littles are tough to lose.
Dixie free ranged on the other side of the house today. This side of the house makes me more nervous. But she seemed to use the landscaping well for cover and the chicks are getting pretty savvy with.

Tonight I washed the outside of our RV as we'll have an old H.S. Buddy of DH in town staying in it.

Also washed dirty chicken fluffs tonight. The girls seemed extra poopy this spring and wanted to avoid fly strike or whatever that is. I also noted I need to throw more mosquito dunks out in the slews. Got bit a few times out there.

Lots of tourists up north. Town is crazy.

Crazy is right.

Sorry about your chick Ralphie.

The mosquitos haven't been bad at all but are starting to get noticed now.

Last night is the first night the Mosquitoes attacked us. I am blaming BC and Erli for them. Had they not mentioned "them" "they" would have left us alone.

We ate a late supper on the deck it was great to start but as the sun was going down they came out is swarms!

Drinking a quick coffee then jumping in the car to head north.

Hellooo! I'm new to the site, but I live in central mn and want to know more about raising chickens at home, so here I am! Raising backyard chickens just recently became legal in my city, so I'm super excited to possibly get into it. Do any of you know of a good place to purchase chickens in mn? I can only have up to 4 hens legally, and all of the popular companies that ship chicks have minimum orders of around 25, which wouldn't work.

I know where you could get some!!!

Welcome to the thread, and welcome to BYC..

Central Minn is such a big place can you give us a better idea?

I m glad to see a city is letting you have chickens. Do you want one breed or 4? Does it matter? Are you looking for Fufu's or regular chickens? A fufu is the poodle of the chicken world. ( except better behaved and a lot cuter).

I am heading to Willmar on Tuesday morning, (from Zimmerman) if you wanted some and are close to that route I could bring you a couple. I cannot promise pullets on young ones, I just cannot tell. I have some older ones, I do better on sexing them, I am right about 50% of the time on them...

I have so much to do today to catch up on what I did not get done yesterday with our trip to Holm's. I have to see how Lizzie is handling imprisonment, At least she cannot get further than 16 feet from her nest now.

I also plan to spend an hour with a Mike's watching Margaret and the tree babies.

I had a guy call me on Friday wanting 5 day old Speckled Sussex chicks. I had told him about Margaret hatching hers, he asked to let him know if I had any to sell. After waiting about 16 hours I looked into the tree and saw only 4 chicks. I called the guy back and told him I only had 4 and could not take them from her when that was all she had....It was about 2 hours later she brought them out of the tree and had 11! I have no idea where she hid them. I have tried to call the guy back to sell him 5 and I cannot get ahold of him. His "voice mailbox" is full....

I also worry he will think I am a liar if all of a sudden I have chicks to sell. I doubt he will believe me when I say she hatched them way back in a hollow tree and I could only see 4...Oh well.. that's life.
