Surviving Minnesota!

We got rain last night but I don't know how much, it was very windy so there are oak pieces all over the yard.

My hollyhock was knocked down

and it had just started blooming so I tied it up and hope it'll be ok.

She ate like she was starving today but I still had to put it in front of her in order for her to eat?  She won't go over to the feed dish but will try to follow the others out to free range.  I found her about 10 ft from the coop/run tonight when we got back from Virginia.  So I dumped more feed in front of her and she ate again!    She is connecting better with the feed now.  It's crazy because she doesn't look sick except for the way she walks?  Her poop is firm and the right color, her eyes are bright, and she even has more color on her face than the other hens???  I am now leaning towards trauma and not disease or poison.  She looks like she is gaining weight too.  When she lays down, I don't see her breast bone or wing bones sticking out anymore.  She is standing up more too but still walks funny.  She let me touch her tonight too.  Had to because she wouldn't go into the run tonight, so I had to help her.  Had issues with the Cochins going in tonight too...they are always the ones who don't want to go in for the night!

So far the fermented seed is great!  I use less and they love it!  I place dry feed and fermented and they will eat the fermented first.  IT gives many benefits such as probiotics, and makes the seed much more digestible so they can absorb more of the vitamins.   I just have to make sure I don't throw any corn in there - ha ha!

I tell you...this is a true learning experience!

I ferment. I love it because the chickens go nuts for it.

Morning . Got a lot of wind last night but not a lot of rain . Boat does not have a lot of water in it . Went to Reamer to the bigfoot story telling .Only lasted about a half hour . Not many stories . He was seen near Bena last Tuesday . Seems he strayed from Togo . Got a little storm cleanup to do . Took the top out of a tree . I have seen a black squirrel down our road . We have those in some places back home . Not much to report .

It has been a tough facebook day for me. My sister is a raving liberal who is constantly bad mouthing Christians and Conservatives and anybody who doesn't agree with her agenda. All her posts are hate filled and divisive, judgmental and hurtful. She is the most closed minded person except for what she thinks is right. I've been trying to decide if I should delete my facebook account as I get upset many times on there because of her. I hid her years ago, but we have alot of the same people as "friends" (family) as she is my sister of course, so we get into it on other peoples posts, because she will always post the opposite of whatever I say.  For instance, the latest thing was about the shooting in falcon heights. It was on somebody elses post who the day of the shooting said she wished cops would quit killing black people. I of course said we should wait before judging on these kinds of things until all the investigation is complete. My sister chimes in about the cop being trigger happy, blah, blah, blah.  I said we should settle down and wait for all the investigation to be complete before making judgements. It went on and on for her.  Dog with a bone. it got ugly.

The thing is, I like seeing my other family and friends stuff, children's accomplishments, vacations, fun stuff.  Plus invitations to stuff, ect... But, I don't think I can stay on there. I asked her to quit with her BS, she won't. she is hard headed, hard hearted, stubborn and always right. My husband had a FB account for about 2 weeks a few years ago but he deleted his account because of her toxic posts. :(

Any suggestions?

I may just not go on facebook for a few weeks and see if it is a big loss or not, i'm thinking it probably wouldn't be a big loss... I may end up  being much happier without all the BS.

It has gotten to the point that today I told her f you in a fb message that got terribly nasty.  frankly, I don't even want to go to any family functions if she is there, neither does my husband, she is toxic. We have to always just sit there and not say anything and listen to her spew her nastiness. I don't know why some people just go so far overboard with their BS, to the point where they are breaking up families.   Sorry for my rant. I'm just very upset and really can't talk to anybody in my family but my DH about this, and I consider all of you good friends (family) :hugs .

I know what you feel like. My cousin does that too.
I just deleted him from my Friend's list.

Cluckies,, She sounds like my brother! I only have 6 FB friends, I never look at any of their stuff. The only reason I have it is to see pictures of my Grandkids and play candy crush. I "de-friended" ages ago when my "friends" with very liberal slants decided FB was a place to proof how stupid they were by spewing their political positions in ways that made absolutely no sense and not being able to make a cogent argument in support of....

Life is better without worrying about non-thinking people...... BTW I think my brother is not talking to me......as you can see I am so broken up over it.... It took offense to my telling him "a Liberal is someone that wants to take guns which are legal from people, while allowing people to have drugs which are illegal".... Or maybe it was when I said I was going to call the INS and inform them he has an illegal alien housekeeper.... He is a rich professor, his wife is a Lawyer, they can afford to be liberal unlike his poor older brother.......

Drop facebook or do some heavy defriending, you can add me if you play candy crush and will give me extra lives.....

BTW I seem to use BYC as my FB,,You poor people are subject to my ramblings and photos... Someday I am going to try and write less..

Erli... My rain gauge has measurable water in it!! We got just under a half inch! Unless someone put water in it to make me think it words! You need to visit Menards and get a rain gauge! I don't think we had any wind. Are hollyhocks a perennial? I want some. My Grandma use to have them, I seem to find myself wanting a lot of stuff she had..

Beings as familiar with the state as I am, I can tell you the above statement is a lie. In the entire history of Mankind, only 3 true statements have come out of Bena:

1--- He/She/I/ was drunk
2---- There is beer in there
3--- I don't know who the Father is

I pretended to be Jerry yesterday, I harvested my cherry crop. Pictures to follow, after harvesting Judy and I split it in half and each ate half....

I have a hatch going on, I have not been to check the hatcher yet today, as of last night only the one white sport had hatched. The 4 little turkeys are wandering like crazy. Their Mother has almost abandoned them, I think she wants to go broody. The Toms have adopted them. They are even running the dogs off if they get too close. The dogs are completely confused they do not understand birds chasing them. They think it should be the other way around.

Last night when I went to lock everything up, there was a little turkey on the roof of the turkey apartment building (aka as the "projects") where the hens live with their babies. The little guy snuggled up to the tom and the tome lifted his wing so it could go under it. The poult did for a few seconds but I think I made it nervous. I did not have my phone with me so no pictures, then it crawled out and climbed up on the tom and sat on his back. I decided I needed to get a picture but when I got back with my camera I found this:

He was pretty upset when I made him get down and go inside where the babies belong.

I over did it yesterday, so I had a flexural night. I still hurt but I hope to get a little done today. I suppose the worst part was doing the cherry harvest in one day, I should have split it up into 2 days.

Ralphie, although your statements regarding Bena may be correct I fear they may not be politically correct.
The cherry crop looks to be delicious this season even if a little on the low productivity guage.
I anxiously await a report on the current hatch and the number of white sports produced.
The INS comment to your brother was worth a laugh, and hopefully it caused some thought on his part once the conversation ended. Family can be trying at times, and a person can choose their friends but has no choice as to who are relatives.
My older brother had very different political thinking than I do, and at one point we did not speak for five years or more. The fences got mended, and his liberal thinking even started to turn so that for several years we had a good relationship prior to his passing. I used to tell him he was going to be very uncomfortable when his time came because he hated hot weather and where he was going it would be extremely hot all the time.
When I finally pass and we are reunited I am sure he will thank me for straightening out his thinking, that is if we have time to talk while shoveling coal unto the flames.

@duluthralphie yes the hollyhocks are a perennial, love them.

DH is on his way to Menards I told him to get a rain gauge, hope he remembers.

I got home a few minutes ago from a friends, she called to say her praying mantis were hatching so I jumped in the car and went. Her driveway is about a mile or so through the woods and I had to stop for a couple downed trees, one was small enough that I was able to get it off the road myself the other was larger but close enough to walk the rest of the way then her hubby got the chain saw.
She sent me home with a jar of the mantis about 20, I released them in the garden. I have some mantis egg pods but mine haven't hatched yet, all hers have ...

They are so small, hope they grow fast.
