Surviving Minnesota!

First off, Knock off the nonsense! You all know Bigfoot lives near Togo. I rent my cabin out to him 9 months of the year and some weeks in the summer. He is a good renter, better than most I have had...

Jerry, I saw your mushroom, It does not look like mine.. You might remember mine looking like this:

Well as of a half an hour ago it looked like this:

The photo looks washed out, it is a pretty pink.

Seriously?! are they garden tomatoes or patio toms?
My zucchini hasn't even bloomed yet...

We have more Zucchini on my 2 plants than we can eat.

We are having our 2nd batch of cukes. We have had peppers also.

The broccoli went to seed again. I can never get it to make bunches. My cabbage is looking great. I should have barrels of kraut this fall. I am getting some small head on the cauliflower.

And I think I found out what my mushroom is...

I will know better tomorrow if Judy wakes up.

That looks like the sulfur shelf / chicken of the woods . Very edible . I slice then into french fry strips and saute in butter with salt and lemon pepper .

Very good on the identification . I did not know there were 2 kinds . A hints on the broccoli . Try a fall crop . Start seeds now . It may work . Many plants change after the longest day . That is why turnips and Chinese cabbage are started now . Total failures as a spring crop . Winter radishes also .

Is Chinese cabbage the same thing as bok choy?

The key to broccoli is get it started in the house and put it in the ground mid-late April. By the time it heats up, it is read to harvest. It is this blasted heat that makes everything bolt so badly. I haven't even looked at mine, the weeds are so tall right now I can't see them. I am not feeling bad because I have enough on my plate. We mulch the rows really good but the weeds in between are what is blocking our view ;)

Okay Chickeners! Its gorgeous weather out there this morning. Watched Reggie assault any of his hens that would let him catch them. I simply have to do a picture album out here. Its been a long, long time since you have seen any of my flock. All the while Tom, who cannot see what is going on, is crowing away. Let me too . . . Let me too . . . Tom is noisy, Reggie is quieter.

There was something making weird noises on the river bank last evening when I went out to lock the big coop. The big coop has a little wired run outside of the structure just to let everyone out of the covered run - because I am sure they need that. So I lock the structured door each evening after they are settled on the roosts. This noise was something I haven't heard. It was obviously in the area by the coops. But it seemed to head down the river I could not even tell if it was flying and there were no splashes but it yelled all the way down the river when it left. Creepy. Glad I have Tom and a black lab. The big coop is secured with a deep foundation and wiring. The little coop has more of a shallow foundation and wire protruding out off the coop under the cement block. Not as secure but it has Tom.

Well, gotta run. Have a good day.

Good morning peeps! Work is done at 10am and then I am off to pick up my 2 youngest (twin) grandchildren and their older sister who is 8. They are staying for 2 weeks!

@jerryse you (and everyone here) make me jealous with all your beautiful veggies and fruit! It was 38 degrees here this morning! Nothing is growing in my garden except some of my herbs who like the cool nights.....maybe next year when the greenhouse is finished.
