Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickeners. Its a nice morning to clean out a run. Got that done. Now onto the next task. Congrats Erlibird for being the first to post. It seems we all become slower to sign onto BYC these nice summer days.

Everyone be safe and have a good day.

Good morning peeps :)

Morning . I am back home safely . Had a good visit with BC and Ralphie . Mowed Wednesday up north and then last night here . Unloaded and checked on things . Rooster is in isolation . Blackberries are getting ripe . I found 2 ripe . The rest are red .Some ripe cherry tomatoes . Slicers are not ripe yet . Cucumbers are about 6 inches . So not long for slicers . Picked a frying size zuccihinni . Coons have been working around the pens . Left them a surprise . Weeds really grew in 2 weeks . So garden needs weeding . Future weed treats for the chickens .I would love to plant a garden at the lake . Not so much weed pressure there . Weeds grow fast in this hotter weather we get . Kinda of like the banana belt only worse .Oh I found one of those mushrooms you had Ralphie . I do not know that one . It was kind of crumbly . So texture will put in the not palatable area .

I love it when the slicers ripen but it means the end of summer and that makes me sad.

Quote:
And, while sitting at the 4th of July parade in Delano, I looked at my six grandchildren and thought "this is halfway through summer." Then I said to myself "I wonder if anyone else thinks this way because the kids have been out of school for only three weeks, we have the rest of July and all of August and even Labor Day weekend is still in the summer. Yet Memorial Day weekend is still in spring. Summer soltice was just June 22nd and here you are, saying the end of summer." I decided not to analyze it further because . . . . well, why?

So Erli - you say slicers are the beginning of the end of summer and it started me wondering again.

Monticello Riverfest this weekend. Have never participated but intend to attend the Saturday Taste of Monticello and the Craft Fair this year. Sherburne County Fair is next weekend. Then poof! Goodbye July.

Sorry for the photo bomb BC... Just thought I would post some pics while I am on. No editing done to these

Who is ready to play GUESS THAT GENDER!

1/4 Welsummer 1/4 Black Australorp 1/2 Buff Brahma at 4-5 weeks.

And once more... 3/4 Welsummer 1/4 Black Australorp at 4-5 weeks

I love this game! Both pullets.

Purebred or hybrid? I love my Welsummers for layers. My New Hampshires are excellent layers too, especially for a dual purpose breed. Definitely not Cochins!!! LOL!!

I decided I'm not entirely sure Cochins actually lay eggs. I think it's a myth.

=)

Purebred. I would only show the Isbars in egg laying market trios.
What color is the welsummers egg? I've heard it varies from really dark to a lighter brown.
I'm thinking about getting Black Copper Marans for dark egg layers

I have 5 Black Copper Marans and 1 Blue Copper Marans. They pretty much lay daily for me. However, I've had issues with them going broody this year. I didn't think they were an especially broody breed, so I'm surprised. I still adore them though and find them to be some of the sweetest birds I've ever had.

Two nights ago, I was getting done with chores and an India Blue peacock came out of the cornfield! I know my neigbor about a mile down the road has some, so I am guessing it is one of his rogue males out on the loose. It wouldn't be the first one. I called him and left a message that the boy is now down at the pond in the field. I tried to get his picture when he went into our elm tree, but he played shy with me and flew over the tassling corn and to the pond.
DH said, "Finders keepers." Of course, he doesn't know anything about peacocks and how they like to be free spirits. I told him they mean good luck, I could use some of that.

Well, I know where you can get two little ones. They're sure to bring you excellent luck!

I will admit they're beautiful birds. Just not what I had in mind. Eh, they're part of the family now.

Some pics from Reamer .

I have a friend that lives in Remer. She showed me some pictures of bigfoot getting married. I don't know what that was all about, but it looked like a good time!

Only in Remer......Lol....
