Surviving Minnesota!

Hello everyone!! How have you all been?!

TOMORROW IS SHOW DAY FOR ME!!! YIKES! I am so scared to screw up!

And sad news... I had a coon come and kill 6 birds... 1 pied guinea, 2 pullets, 1 cockerel and my "antique" aka LuLu. I was so ticked. Lost birds 3 nights in a row and last night by brother and I stayed out with the boomsticks and made them good. It was a mom and baby.

Good luck at the auction Ralphie! Next time u r down here we will have to plan on a visit!

Sorry about those coon losses Holm. They are smart as tacks those vermin. Glad you solved the problem.

We've been good here. Integrating 6 new birds to the flock. 2 different broods. So I have chickens everywhere. Hoping that Rooster Can corral them up and make them one flock this fall. He needs a little more maturing though. He's still a baby. But I think he already knows his name. He makes a funny little call when I yell "Junior" Trained him up on some Cheese pieces saying his name yesterday, LOL.

Sorry for your losses Holm :(

GOOD LUCK AT THE SHOW!!!! YOU'RE GOING TO DO GREAT!!!

Do you guys think I could show a chicken as purebred if the colors are mixed? For example, if I bred a blue Cochin bantam and a partridge Cochin bantam. Would the offspring still be purebred?

It would be a purebred bird but would not be a recognized color. So you could show it as a purebred bird, but not sure how it would place due to it not being an APA recognized

Violet, I have no idea about that sorry. I am strictly guessing they are pure if it is just the color, The exception would be the Partridge Chantiler and Chanticlers as they are actually different breeds. There maybe more but who knows. I suggest you call the fair or show and have the judge get back to you.

I got my predator on camera last night.

It will be meeting the fate of all predators. Species does not matter to me. Some may not like this, but I post these more as a warning to everyone that these are not always the sweet fuzzballs you see on your couch.

I know now why so many were killed and only the small birds were taken. I have never seen a cat with larger poop and a covering area. I see the time was around 1am. This is very good to know. I will be setting up more cameras tonight. Notice it did not even glance at the live trap with two dead chick in it.

I have nothing else (not counting inside the brooder shed) that it can kill at this time. I would assume though it would take on the younger pullets I have in the main coop.

Anyone know where I can get some ultra sensitive land mines?

It looks like a job for a shotgun more than a rifle.....(this is probably going to drop my humanity with some of you, sorry, I am still ticked it is alive and my babies are not...

It is still a Cochin but not showable . You must state the color variety .You compete in your variety and then for breed . So you may get a best of variety but not best of breed . There is also a AOV class in your breed where project colors compete . There again color variety is stated . AOV does not always have awards .

Ralphie you could try cat food in the live trap or a disposable live chick in a small cage inside the trap . You could also try a bucket set . Go to YouTube and search trapping bucket set . I will probably lose points for that suggestion .
