Quick Question - What type of soap does everyone use for getting birds ready for show? I have read Baby shampoo or Dawn dish soap.

I'm not sure I would Dawn. That would strip more oils off the feathers..I'd think...?

I saw a youtube video using a 3-bucket system. First one has warm water and a pet shampoo bubbled up in it. Next one was warm water and splashes of vinegar. And the last was warm water and Glycerin (available from the pharmacist). And that's what I sort of do with my birds for their once a year bath in the summer.

I hope everyone is doing well! My chickens will definitely appreciate the cooler day today. Hot, cold, tornado, hurricane.....my ducks don't seem to care about what happens outside. They're......special.

Ivory Snow in the wash water with a Borax. Then do a full rinse, then I started doing a flea dip at the end. Wash your birds ten days before show so they have time to get the oils back in their feathers.

Do you have White birds? If so, I have a really awesome mix to use on them.

Just got home. Put the chickens in gave my cochin hen a pat went up to the house pet the dog who is always very happy when we get back. But then she heard something in the yard and the LGD kicked in and she ran off.

We got hailed while we were outside Keystone. We were in my moms new 04 pickup, that looks brand new. Only have 3 tiny dents on the hood.
Quarter inch or larger hail. Hailed pretty hard for a while, when it started we pulled to the side on a straightaway underneath some overhanging branches. A few nicer pickups too pulled in behind us. We left after it stopped, and it started again small so we kept going. Saw a few more things then headed home.

Just got done doing some grounds cleaning of Gilman Days, next up help brother pour cement for his new cattle barn, and if time permits (energy level permits) clean our coop and add straw to the run.

Ralphie, have you seen any of the photos or reports of storm damage in Duluth? It is really quite a disaster. Very large trees down all over town, and the cemeteries have been very hard hit. It will take decades for the trees along London Rd to grow back.

This advancing age is not all it is cracked up to be. I have heard of Gout but never knew much about it. I can now tell you it is something you do not want. First thing the DR. asked is do you drink a lot of beer or eat a lot of red meat? I told him I hardly drink any alcohol, but I am quite fond of red meat and do not intend to give it up. As close as I am to 100, I will bear the pain until the end.

It is quite beautiful today, and I will put it in the memory banks to reminisce about when it is below zero in October.

Sorry to hear that your health is not in such great order, and I feel your pain. I have been dealing with GERD for 20+ years and just found out what I have has a name. I have had to give up coffee, chocolate and several other foods I used to enjoy immensely. I have been off gluten as well for the last month, and after trying to eat it again this week, I am marking that off my menu too. It doesn't make me sick, but it sure does make me tired and irritable when I do eat it, so it is not something I want to keep consuming. I turned 50 this year and I am not ready to just say I will deal with it and eat what I want though. My father had GERD too and his went untreated, basically, he didn't follow the doctors' instructions with diet and it ended up killing him after the problem then turned to cancer and then spread. Now, the real challenge is to get my kids to change their diet so they don't run into the same problems that my husband and I face, and to improve their quality of life now, but they are stubborn as mules. It seems like if one thing doesn't get you in this life, another one will.

Bert is still with us. He has eaten most of his corn, I am not worried about weight gain on him right now. I just want him to have energy to fight the maggots. I have not "done" his butt yet tonight, I am waiting for Judy to be able to help me.


I stopped and looked at Ivie's wood damage, I think it is a young coon, but I could be wrong. She really has her coops set up nicely. Every one seems to have better coops than me.

I moved my last birds out of the house! I moved some birds outside. I took the Sports out of their respective groups and made them into their group. I left one crippled something not sure what in with them and a CLB bantam. He is small at 3-4 weeks he is about 4 day old size. He seems healthy and all, just does not grow.

NOTE> the above was started last night I got busy and never finished...

Bert is still with us and seems to be better tonight. I just sold 4 chicks to a family that lost theirs from another source. They told Judy no one told them the kids should not play with them.....Hopefully, they learned and these will live.

They had a cute little girl that was all concerned, because "someone let all my chicken out!"

I spent the day at an auction in Cambridge. Judy busted me. I did not get my treasures out of the van soon enough. She does not think I needed to buy two pallets of 1955 Ford Fairlane parts... Or another tool box even if it was filled with tools...She can be so unreasonable. I am thinking of spending the week with Jerry at the lake so she can't "harp" on my purchases all week....maybe she would forget by next week.
