Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, what is this supposed eye defect, and would it be likely that it would be passed on to chicks?
I am somewhat concerned about Coffee1st, as she made a remark regarding Ole's sexual deviance being a learned trait. I would hope she would be speculating that Ralphie might teach such bad habits, as he is a confessed "redneck". I am on the other hand a man of culture and refined behavioral habits.

Thank you so much Rhett's. If you got 5 gallon buckets, water and cold air you can do this.

I really do not know much about it, Kevin Porter mentioned it and showed a page from a 1940's turkey book that referenced it. It is attached to the "D" slate gene, If you have a double D turkey the disorder can express itself.

It is thought to cause vision problems and possibly leads to blindness. I checked all my Self blues as they are DD also, I saw one bird that could have what I would call a small eye. I might just make her my token female Freezer camp counselor. The rusty Lavender is a DD but it has huge eyes.

I am going to take Kevin's word on this over my desire for poults. I do not want to pass this along so I will be very careful as to the birds I allow to breed.

As far as Ole goes, I am thinking he picked it up genetically or from the person you got Ole from. Having you or myself as role models Ole should have been a candidate for sainthood.

Thank you Erlibird. They--for as simple to make as they are--make a statement. And you know me I love cheap stuff. LOL.

Ralphie. That's exciting that you discovered the girls were laying and now laying in designated nest. Diamonds are a girl's best friend. LOL. And it seems January 21st-ish will be a real sparkly noodley day! Are you joining a Hatch-a-long for other New year day setters?

There's some youtube videos on caponizing roosters. IDK...Ralph...it's beyond anything I would want to try myself. Let alone with a big flopping bird like that.
