Surviving Minnesota!

Look out - VENT session ahead.

I brought a couple dozen eggs to work this morning. Free for the taking. I put the following email out:
"Good Morning,
I put 4 cartons of farm fresh eggs in the fridge...please feel free to take them home and enjoy. There is a date on the carton; this is the picked date. Please use within 21 days as they are not pastaurized.

The eggs are from a new young flock so there is no such thing as 2 uniform eggs."

I had one person say, "Eww some are speckled and some are so tiny, that is gross." She closes the egg carton and shoves them back in the fridge. Mind you all were over 50grams. GRRR> I am giving you eggs for free. Keep your "city slicker" opinions to yourself.

My favorite is 'eww I don't like brown eggs'

Like... Really??

When my sister moved into the old house I told her she had yo pay for eggs. She doesn't help with the birds, and I'd rather not have her help. Mt dad thought it was fair, my mom didn't and threw a fit so I said I would give her 3 dozen for free.
A few days ago 2 dozen duck eggs were missing from our fridge!? I was thinking that maybe my mom sold them to someone. Later that day I had to get some milk from the fridge in her house since that's where we out the milk other then a gallon up at out house. And there's the eggs. So I took each carton and wrote "you owe me $4" on the cartons. Still haven't gotten my money

If your sister only nicks you for 4 bucks a month consider yourself lucky...Besides they were duck eggs so basically worthless anyways.....

I have been a busy bee so far today, I have been to Monticello and am back already. I waved when I went by Ivie's but she never waved back. There was a light on in one of the bedrooms, but it might have been her night light.

I tried to catch the PC pullet I am thinking of taking. She evaded me again, I would have had her, but the turkeys pushed the door open when I was chasing her. Stupid traitor turkeys!

I hate when people do that!!
If people could see egg farms and how the chickens are packed in they would appreciate good fresh eggs from happy chickens. The egg farms get funny looking eggs also but they are taken out and thrown away. Would they drink milk if they saw how cows lick their tongues up into their noses and drop cow patties everywhere and get covered with flies? I feel sorry for people who have never lived on a farm or raised in the old days when everyone kept chickens and a cow. Would they eat a chicken that had it's head chopped off or neck twisted and how they flop around even with their heads missing?

Look who decided to change gender....

It looks like a Welsummer Cockerel! LOL. Now that I know what they look like! Hahaha (Minnie)
Welcome spurrer. I am just catching up on reading - you chickeners have been busy - and that is exactly what I thought. Speckled eggs in Ralphies hollow tree.
I am doing grandma duty and am exhausted! Ready to collaspe real soon. Gotta get designated survivor in yet - the first episode looks like it may be an okay series. Have any of you watched it?

Happy Grandma-ing Ivie. I hope your relief comes here soon. We are Survivor watchers. Well DH and kids for sure. When I'm in and out of the living room I pick up bits and pieces. It's on the DVR...so will watch if you say it's a good season so far.

Ahhh the Uneducated. Give her a copy of Food, Inc. on DVD. She'll really be saying Ewwww. I have less and less patience for dumb people. Honestly.
I personally would put an honor system on those eggs. And take the money to put towards their not so cheap feed. Just saying. I have a Ball Jar that holds my egg money. And when I need a bag of feed I pick out the money I need from the jar. LOL.
Bless you MNChickMom for giving the ignorant a chance at beautiful, delicious, Nutritious eggs.

Duck eggs are reported to have more good fats for baking. I guess the eggs really make recipes better. I've heard reports that foodies will pay more for them.

I want to go to Hutch to see all you people. Give me dates and times. This year our Halloween event is not happening and I believe its the same weekend...traditionally. But just want to be sure.

Ralphie and Jerry are we wandering around in the woods during the morning or afternoon on Sunday? I'm open to times....Ralphie...maybe best to ask you since Jerry and I have the leisure of not driving too far.

Ralphie: I'm sorry to hear of your predator problems and glad to hear that you have solved them. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I don't have a predator problem, I have not had one for 6 weeks or so now..

Lets try to hit the woods between 8:30 and 9;00, that way I can leave here around 6...

Where are we meeting?

With the warming weather the next couple days I have my hopes high.

If you really want to turn off your city and country friends to buying food in the store read this:

http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceReg.../SanitationTransportation/ucm056174.htm#intro

It is a FDA publication. Note how many rat hairs, poop and insect parts can be in apple butter or cranberries...

We'll meet at the gas station in town Ralphie. It's also a place to buy a coffee or sit and chat with a coffee. There's lots of parking there and I'll drive us out to the first spot. Try our luck there and Then I've got a couple other trails in mind. I'll call Jerry, because I think he's already up here and limited internet for him.
