Surviving Minnesota!

I've been MIA. anywhoo, hope everything is going well. so I've got my ladies molting, 3 out of 5. 2 have not eaten in 3 days. is it normal for them to quit eating while molting?

They get a little cranky while molting but I don't think they quit eating, I bet you are just not seeing them eat. Give some high protein snacks, you have meal worms?

Their crop is empty at night, and they won't even eat live meal worms...:( cluck cluck molt isn't even a hard one. Mothers is, but Tisha is the worst, and she is eating fine. ..

So tomorrows home coming and I haven't decided if I'm going to the dance yet.
I decided to try my dress on since I haven't worn it for a year. And my fingertips are about an inch past my dress

It should work though as long as I don't bend down to much

We'll meet at the gas station in town Ralphie. It's also a place to buy a coffee or sit and chat with a coffee. There's lots of parking there and I'll drive us out to the first spot. Try our luck there and Then I've got a couple other trails in mind. I'll call Jerry, because I think he's already up here and limited internet for him.

OK., Only one gas station in town? The one on the south end?

Wear Bib Overalls under the dress, no one notice it and in reality, Bib's go great everywhere.

I have one of THOSE questions. How is an egg pasturized. I used this term when referring to eggs and the friend, who grew up on a farm, said he did not think eggs come pasturized because they need to be heated to 180 for a certain number of minutes to kill the bacteria and that would change the composition of the egg. So please teach me what this means?

I have also read that the eggs in the store are washed with a solution (Ralphie talked about this during his certification - I think) I read that when the eggs are washed it removes the film that drys on to the shell after the chicken lays the egg and it protects it from bacteria. When an egg is washed it removes that film and that is when an egg can develop salmonola (spell?) and that that problem can be transmitted through the cartons and infect other eggs.

I put 4 cartons of farm fresh eggs in the fridge...please feel free to take them home and enjoy. There is a date on the carton; this is the picked date. Please use within 21 days as they are not pastaurized.

The eggs are from a new young flock so there is no such thing as 2 uniform eggs."

I had one person say, "Eww some are speckled and some are so tiny, that is gross." She closes the egg carton and shoves them back in the fridge. Mind you all were over 50grams. GRRR> I am giving you eggs for free. Keep your "city slicker" opinions to yourself.

Ahhh the Uneducated. Give her a copy of Food, Inc. on DVD. She'll really be saying Ewwww. I have less and less patience for dumb people. Honestly.
I personally would put an honor system on those eggs. And take the money to put towards their not so cheap feed. Just saying. I have a Ball Jar that holds my egg money. And when I need a bag of feed I pick out the money I need from the jar. LOL.
Bless you MNChickMom for giving the ignorant a chance at beautiful, delicious, Nutritious eggs.

When my sister moved into the old house I told her she had yo pay for eggs. She doesn't help with the birds, and I'd rather not have her help. Mt dad thought it was fair, my mom didn't and threw a fit so I said I would give her 3 dozen for free.
A few days ago 2 dozen duck eggs were missing from our fridge!? I was thinking that maybe my mom sold them to someone. Later that day I had to get some milk from the fridge in her house since that's where we out the milk other then a gallon up at out house. And there's the eggs. So I took each carton and wrote "you owe me $4" on the cartons. Still haven't gotten my money
Duck eggs are reported to have more good fats for baking. I guess the eggs really make recipes better. I've heard reports that foodies will pay more for them.

I want to go to Hutch to see all you people. Give me dates and times. This year our Halloween event is not happening and I believe its the same weekend...traditionally. But just want to be sure.

Ralphie and Jerry are we wandering around in the woods during the morning or afternoon on Sunday? I'm open to times....Ralphie...maybe best to ask you since Jerry and I have the leisure of not driving too far.

Hey Chickeners! I would go to Hutch to meet up too! We could decide on an approximate time and meet. And Ralphie, we could keep you company. It could possibly fun.

Ralphie: I'm sorry to hear of your predator problems and glad to hear that you have solved them. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

WAIT! What page was that on? You having / had new predators Ralphie? Or is it the neighbor's dog BT, that you are referring to?

Two kids around for two nights and two days. Of course I have questions. They are a nine year old boy and a seven year old girl and there is nothing like having grandkids. Just wait. All the work before with your own kids is worth it. We did not have near enough time together to get our projects and outings done. Even they were saying they would stay another day to play. I gotta go clean a construction site tomorrow or perhaps I would have taken them on.

Sorry Cluckies I've never had one that quit eating. I've had them stand back and wait for the others to clear out but then they go eat something. Hope they recover from the molt soon!

Any idea what these are called? I saw them in a log last fall and thought they looked so cool for a picture. I do not share a love of fungi as food as many of you seem to. I am more of the "Those look cool, I will take a picture." and enjoy them that way. It made a cool screen saver, then a cool background on my phone, then a cool profile pic on FB. ;)

Great picture, I'd love that as a puzzle!
