Surviving Minnesota!

One Frozen Ocean Blue Egg from the Lavender yesterday. It Cracked. I left it on the table and it's almost like it resealed itself. I put it in the carton as the next one to be used. She lays every other day. So won't be anything today and then I'll need to run down and check tomorrow. Poor birds.

Wow, That coffee has a ton of ambition! I wish I had as much as she has in just her little finger. LOL. Living the good life.

Hiya Coffee if you're on reading this particular thread.

@MinnesotaNice I'm with you on the gorgeous fluffball kitty cat! It's holm with his good pictures is what it is....darn that camera. No wonder he can sell snowballs to eskimos. Next thing you know he'll have Ralphie signed up for geese and ducks.

So I did this big write up on the 'economics of keeping laying chickens' for another website I follow and thought it might be worth sharing on BYC. Basically it breaks down my take on inputs and outputs of running a small egg business and such. Anybody have a tip if where I should post it here? Since you guys wooed me into the Minnesota thread I haven't really ventured outside of this thread.

Well I saw a really awesome deer crash this morning . Coming back from the hardware store . I noticed a deer running across a crop field toward the road . I slowed down but the car up ahead did not see the deer until too late . Car hit deer . Deer went airborne , did a complete flip above oncoming traffic and landed in the woods . I could not see the deer after it landed . No people were harmed . Only crumpled the hood a little .

They should be good mousers Ralphie!

Minnesotanice want me to have him pack his bags and start walking your way?

I think this sounds like something that should be made an "article" on here. I can not thin of any thread it would fit into. I am not sure if there is a writing contest going on now, if there is you might want to enter it, or hold off on it until the next article writing contest.

I have gotten some fairly nice stuff for here from entering the article contests. I have gotten a couple golden feather, memberships, a couple calendars and of course the all expense paid trip with first class airfare for four to Australia. I won that a couple years ago but I think @Blooie has sabotaged me on it, the tickets and vouchers seem to be lost in the mail.

I just came in from my last trip out for the day/night. I cannot believe how cold it can be for only 4 below. My fingers froze, my butt got cold, I am not happy when it is this cold. I picked up two more pre-cracked eggs to market. One was a Yokohama , I hate to see them crack they are so delicate and cute. I assume they are about the size of a banty egg. You know, I cannot recall for the life of me ever seeing a banty egg. I have never had banties nor did my folks or grandparents. I must have seen them. there is no way to get as old as I am without seeing one, I would think.

EJB have you ever seen a banty egg, after all you are at least twice as old as me.so I think you might have...

good idea. i will look into trasposing it into an article and perhaps just hold it until there is a contest.

You guys should get a laugh out of this though. After posting my write up today, I got an email from a TV producer. it reads:

My name is Kate and I'm casting for the upcoming season of Homestead Rescue. I was hoping that you'd know someone that would be interested in possibly participating. We generally feature families that need help on their land. If you happen to know anyone that fits that description, feel free to reach out! My email is xxxxx

What do you guys think? do i need the drama of some (likely) crappy reality tv show invading my farmstead? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

EDIT

I just looked up the show hahahaha no waaaaaaaay am I emailing this lady back

Send them here, I can put them to work! I will have all of you stop by to add drama..

I have the following spots open in my homestead reality show:

Drunken Uncle
Overly Zealous Dog lover
Cousin Erma, Composting expert and my first wife.
I need 2 kids I gave up at birth for adoption. One from Nodak and one from NW Minnesota. Please consider knocking a few front teeth out for the show, (artistic expression)
Judy's sister, for this part you need to be semi crazy and know witchcraft, supply your own broom
A cousin Jake that shoots eagles and hawks from the sky and tries to trap predators. (you must pay your own fines)

I need a loyal neighbor woman that can bring me drinks and feed me grapes while I lay in a hammock, This person has to think Judy does not treat me well enough.

Then we need someone that hates Guineas to come and make a scene on regular basis complaining about them,

A very poor Collection agency person that comes to collect past due bills and always gets roped into doin chores..
g

I think with these few spots we can have a great non-scripted reality program....

I think this is about all we need,

Morning . Another bitterly cold day .
How cold is bitterly cold down there in Texas?

I lost one of my old dogs this summer. Never easy. Have a few young dogs I'm working with. Need to get off my butt and into the show ring with them this spring.
Oh no, so sorry for your loss

One of my Black Copper Marans has been missing for two days now. I don't think she got back into the coop in time Monday night. They were all running around during the day. Either she succumbed to the cold or fed something. It happens. I just wish it was easier to replace that breed. They're my favorite birds.

Anyone else looking forward to Spring?
Oh no! I hope she shows up!

Kloppers I love that show! Do it lol. Send them to Ralphie. They help build whatever the people need and made a pig house thing in like two days.
