Surviving Minnesota!

I saw that article too Ed. And although I'm inclined to agree with its results listening to Layers accounts of school closings, shut down highway systems I'm thinking NoDak would be the 2016-17 winner.

-26 F in my neck of the woods. Red light on in the coop last night. As tough as that sounds I pretty much treat -5 and -26 the same. Dang cold! Kids off to school, like it's no big deal. Lol. Good ole Minnee-sotah!

Jerry's probably wishing he was in Texas this Am.
Argh the deer/car scenes are never good. So you didn't pull over to get the back straps then? There's probably some pretty tasty cornfed veni down there!
Memphis. If I lived where you live and had certain weatherly expectations, I'd be snugged in and buying extras at the grocery store, too. And no doubt Tennessee's snow removal equipment is not budgeted like ours. Be safe, girl!

Actually thought about it . I could not see it plus traffic . I can not imagine it running off after that . IDK

Most of us would not stop for the back straps. When I came up to mushroom hunt with you and hit that deer, I did not even stop for 20 miles until I could pull into a gas station that was open. I have seen too many people stop and not be able to move ending up stranded in the middle of no where..

However, BC, being from the "roadkill stew" capital of Minnesota was shocked. As I recall she asked about a dozen times that day. "You didn't stop for the back straps?"

If I am ever hit by a car crossing the road up there, I plan to run for the woods or drag myself into the woods, incase a local stops to try and get my "backstraps". It is a bad place to be a car hit wounded animal!

Morning everyone! Friday is finally here! I need to go and clean the coop this weekend before we get more snow, I also need to go get some oats from a farmer neighbor, I'm plum out right now.
Any of you here about a new law in Paris? They seemed spanning your kids illegal!! Apparently a lot of other European countries have banned spanning previous to Paris.
My dad's going down to Hoeven SD tomorrow to go look at 2 snowblower for our 186 hydro. We're supposed to get some snow next week so he wants to get a snow blower so he doesn't have to push it anymore as the bucket pins for the quick tatch are moving against the slots causing it to create a bigger slot.

Layers do you get Chinooks (wind) there like Rapid City gets?

I am trying to figure out why we are ahead of you on the brutal winters list. I am guessing it is because you get more "warm" temps than we get.

I hope your Dad gets a blower for you. I would love to have one. I just put a three sided cab on my Bobcat so I am pretty happy as it is.

just 4 more months and this weather will be a distant memory!!

I was wondering the same thing. We are definently colder and windier then SD. And I know most days we arw colder then MN. But hey we can claim the most extreme temperatures state.

Ya'll, Coffee posted more pics over on the turkey thread. Great deck and an amazing rooster mailbox. Can't believe how busy you guys have been!!

I'm posting this so ya'll can make fun of us southerners! Its currently 22 here. (above 0), so you know we think we are dying. But the big news is that its SNOWING! Yep, we may get a whole inch of snow! Not a loaf of bread or carton of milk left in the grocery stores! The local news folks are all on air an hour early to cover the big event! Wall to wall coverage of our 1" blizzard!

Hahaha, so funny!

How cold is bitterly cold down there in Texas?   ;)

Well I am in Illinois . -3 here this morning . My concept of bitterly cold changes the older I get . My low is probably your high for the day . So yea balmy by your standards .
yeah, I know you are in illinois, but I think we will call it the panhandle from now on as it is so warm there hahaha

I'd love to see coffees pics, can someone post a link to the turkey thread?

Klopklop, there is a farm in southern mn I went to to pick up some feed last summer, their farm was falling into terrible shape. She hurt her back a couple of years ago, and her dh also had physical limitations, they would be perfect for that show.

The weatherman said it was only suppose to get -12 this morning, -19.... no good

I'd be lying if I said I had never processed road kill. Deer, turkey, even a squirrel one time (there used to be an old lady by my grandmas who would pay $3 for a cleaned squirrel carcass)

My dad got a two-fer in yearling bucks once with his truck. That meat lasted us 18 months.

I wouldn't pull over to get a random roadkill but if I knew it was fresh and had the time to process it, sure.

Well I need to go buy feed today . Not really wanting to go out in the cold .

I had to mix feed last night in -10. It was not pleasant but the chooks were hungry. Boots, bibs, 3 layers of sweatshirts, nothing showing but my eyes :)

@duluthralphie will you be disappointed in me? I found out last night my bins are actually dickies not carhardts. I never even realized. I got them at fleet farm on a good sale. I'd say they are as good as the 'real deal'. I use dickies duck work pants year round and they are fantastic.
