Surviving Minnesota!

-7

Good Morning Chickeneers. As you can see I have one layer! These are Pearl's master pieces. Ocean blue with little brown spots.

-7 this morning. What fun!

Girls Basketball game last night. Both teams won. JV and Varsity. Rough bunch-- the opponents though--one new girl came off the court all red faced and she said to the coach, "Wow! Are they Ever Mean!" LOL. The girls like my daughter who's played the team before just laughed--sadly already used to this team and their antics.

Been Making soap lately. People calling and asking for it. Just made this citrus one. The smell is SO brightening on these long cold days.

I make my own scrubs, but not soap. Is it difficult? I love peppermint lavender......
That's interesting, I would like to have peafowl, but everyone I know that has them says they do not stick around and refuse coops.

My two go into the coop at night. They don't roam around too much, but do prefer to perch on top of the run during the day. Such quirky little things.

Oh, and no frozen eggs today! The next few days are going to be awesome. You know you have a chicken problem when you look forward to a warm day to soften all the crap on the poop boards up. I'm pretty much over frozen poop flying at me when I try to clean them off.

Do you do sugar or salt scrubs?

This has a little bit of involvement to it... But no not difficult. I get the sense that you could probably do well with it. I watched 4 YouTube videos on it before I bought supplies and gathered equipment from 2nd hand stores and dollar stores (bowls, stick blender etc) there is lye safety to know and how saponification works, calculations, and curing the soap. It's time consuming to set up and clean up. The actual soap making happens fast.

Arg. Lily did not kick the bucket last night so I had the job tonight. She was an original-- so those are not easy ones. Overall though... Culling birds -- getting better at it. Lily loved to perch in trees. Fly up on the deck. She was the first to jump up on the brooder ledge. Loved her wings. Now she really gets to use them.

Quick remodel to the waterer in the coop. A bedding shuffle. And the girls are happy. The buff orpington only have 16 days to give me an egg or they will be my next dinner guest.
Today we had lots of fun at the annual cub scout Pinewood derby.

I have finally done it....First successful strain of the one-legged chicken. Here they are in their natural habitat....Still working on perfect placement of the one leg - as you can see only one hen has the correct symmetry going for her. Now accepting (non refundable) deposits for next generation.

I'll just go wait by my phone for your offers.
