Surviving Minnesota!

Not necessarily. My experience has been with commercial projects, but the local authorities ("authorities " can differ state to state) come to the site and determine if any additional excavation is required. Not unusual to find an arbitrary body here & there. If there are enough artifacts and they want to further investigate, they are usually given a time frame to complete their work. One project was two months, another six months.

The place he bought is old, the house is 1850's and there is an older cabin he thinks is 1830's that was used to house slaves.

I am thinking remodeling something like that could be a pain if the wrong person finds out and decides it has "historical" value also.

I am impressed he decided to do this, even though he is a bleeding liberal, he seems to like to do a lot of the same things I do. He even fixes his own mechanical and electrical problems, which for a PHD is pretty good. I find they normally can barely tie their shoes by themselves...

Come to think of it, I think he mainly wears slip ons....

total of 5 so far . 3 are Brahma crosses . 2 impossible reds = cockerels and one silver = pullet . 1 lavender cuckoo and 1 cuckoo not pictured . So 2 cockerels and 1 pullet . Since the lavender cuckoo cock is covering black hens split for lavender those chicks can not be sexed by head spot .

Be careful out there Jerry, who said living in the tropics comes without challenges ?

Well the record low for todays date is -23 . So not sure about the tropics part . We do get cold . Just not as cold as the far north . I see Longville record low for todays date is -35 .

I don't really like guineas but I am considering getting 30 for $190.50 which divides out to $6.66R. I think it'd be worth it to sell all but a few. They sell for $15+ a piece in the spring at New Salem.

Spent the afternoon on the ice. I decided it was to nice to sit inside so sat out on the ice. My brother and his friends were going out so I tagged along. They're really loud...

BC I think that if you took fewer photos of your chickens you would be less attached to them. It is then easier to deal with the inevitable. Nice photos by the way, and I notice there are no ND One Legs in your flock.

Ralphie has been strangely missing in the last posts. I hope he has not succumbed to the notion that work projects needed tending to.

I know Ed. I like my photos though. Trying to give color to the thread. Keeps the folks happy. LOL. She was sort of a background bird. Not as much of a pet as some of her other brood mates but an original, nonetheless--me just being nostalgic. And even DS said that he's not much into the chickens any more and didn't feel that sad. So are we turning into non-cuddlers like you and Jerry?....I just don't know. I see how it happens though. Although the birds will get every care, I have been giving them more space and less of me in their face. Although that June and Patsy hanging out in the garage for a long time this summer did grow partial to the food lady (mealworm master) , I think. And she to them. So new faves.

I have 3 chicks hatched . 1 more trying . I will have to get a pic later . I have a genetic impossible in there . I put a couple silver penciled Brahma roosters over my auto sexing EE hens . Should produce sex linked silver hens and golden roosters . I have a red chick with feather legs . This should not happen . I have had a similar result in a red x silver cross before . Genetics guys told me it could not be . I had to be mistaken .

For crying out loud.

Ralphie: Keep us informed on the excavation in NC. How interesting.

Holm-- I LOVE the ice fishing pictures. Look at that frozen tundra! LOL. But making the most of it is what gets us through this winter isn't it? Do it up! Did you catch anything?

DNA came in yesterday. I noted the email late last night...so then I stayed up reviewing it and going to bed late. Wow. Lots of interesting stuff. He really is a mutt!

What kind of mutt? What do the reports look like? DO they give areas or of origin or country?

Do they give you a time frame as to how much or when it could come from?
