Surviving Minnesota!

The glasses, what I can see of them, look awesome. And as always, the chicks are so adorable at this chick age.

Thanks! I hope they look nice! They were the only pair I would wear and of course one of the few not covered by my moms work. I didnt know glasses were so expensive

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

Sorry about your roo Holm. The one that is still present is gorgeous! Is he a nice roo or too young to know yet? He reminds me of my handsome Tom Hanks.

Tough night! One of 'those' nights. Then at about 3:30 I could hear a hen squawking so I got up and went out to check on them. What a beautiful morning at 3:30. My dogs were wondering what in the world I was doing. Life and body are changing. Today I begin to practice Tai Chi. Maybe I will practice better sleeping habits after learning how to do this.

Bees? I have been contemplating bees. I think it might be a good second next to the chickens.

Well, guess I will go make coffee.

Thanks Ivie! He is a sweet little rooster. I have never hatched an aggresive rooster that I know of. All the ones I have raised to butcher have never attacked or acted like they were gonna. But I have never used a mean rooster for breeding. So that is most likely why.

It has been beautiful out hasnt it?

Have fun with your Tai Chi! I have heard of it byt never done it lol!

They aren't bad priced I pay a buck a pair for mine...

We got about 6 inches of white stuff between yesterday and last night. The little woman will need to plow today. My shoveling is completed except around my coops.
Holm, I may be getting worried about you? That is not the type of chick which you are supposed to find a love interest with. Telling you not to get married does not mean to avoid human females entirely !!
Ralphie, I use the same kind of glasses as you. It is a pain having to use any, but the fact that they are reasonably priced is good.
Layers, perhaps you could invite Holm to branding when it is time and give him some roping lessons?

LOL Holm - they are that expensive because we will pay it. I was up to $800 a pair of glasses (bi-focals and more) and so I did the lasik figuring it would pay for itself within five years. It did and was a wonderful, quick, painless, procedure.

@Cluckies
Ed is a PC. He is the mist gentle best looking bird I have (not SOP best, but best to my eyes) He raises and protects chicks. He sits and lets them crawl all over him. I think part of the problem with his breeding is his gentleness, when a hen resists he just stops.

I was hoping wienerhead would be more aggressive with the girls but I am not sure if he is. He is a nut case with me, just does not like to be monkeyed with. (whereas, Ed while not a lapper, does not fight me when I have to check him out or move him). I got Ed from EJB, I think he has his personality, just too kind for his own good.

I cleaned the nest boxes in the outdoor breeding pens, it went well except in the SS pen. I started cleaning and Queen Lizzie decided to "help" She jumped on my forearm and refused to get off, so I cleaned the box one handed with a chicken on my arm. When one of the birds I had at the shows saw that she decided to come over and jump on my right shoulder.

Well, that brought another over to see what was so interesting so she crawled into the nest boxes I was cleaning. I know this sounds like I make pets of my birds. I do not, I have a few, very few I hold, these SS I do not. (well other than Lizzie). Ss have the best personality of all the birds I have.

I did not know the bees in hives were not native bees. I knew they had made some crosses but I thought they were down south. Is is possible to get native bees into a hive? I like the rest of you have thought about getting bees. but just never do it. I am anti-sting.

I found a turkey hen on a nest under the granary yesterday, there were 4 chicken eggs and 3 turkey eggs, one of the chicken eggs was cracked from freezing. The turkey covered them really well when she left the nest, so I assume that kept them from freezing at night. Way too early for turkeys..

@MNChickMom Number ! daughter needs a turkey for 4-h! Turkeys are so much fun. She would fall in love with them, And I happen to know where she could get a pair....

Layers, I was going to ask you something but I forgot.......old age mind... Oh is your Mom, a legislator?

Going to make more feeders today, I think I found one that has cut my waste down and the rodents, (chipmunks, squirrels, mice and rats can not get into them.
