Surviving Minnesota!

BC, I am so glad your feeling guilty about the salts. That was the entire purpose of the entire post. I am so glad to be rewarded for said post...

Last week I was thinking mushrooms. Now I am just thinking about hot cocoa and sitting under a comforter with my feet up.... I assume you have lost some of the mushroom thrill also with this nasty cold..

Banti you are just going to have to learn to trust and believe in me the way the others on this thread do...

Layers, PLEASE make sure you drain every drop of moisture out of that weather system before you allow it to move this direction. Thanks!
Now what was that comment you love to make about lemmings? Hmm?

Layers. Once the bird is beyond 4 days I'm out for sexing wing feathers.

How's the tail feathers? Shanks? Stance?
I'm not sure if Cochins feather similarly as a standard chicken. Also if I had to guess on those solid colored adolescent wing feathers-- male?

I'm not sure either I know they are harder to feather sex then most breeds. I will get pictures later tonight. I usually don't judge on stance as they are all acting the same and 39 of them are sexed females and they are all acting the same

Jerry, I have no worms here ever. I live in and on the Sand Dunes. Worms do not stand a chance here.

Layers and BC. I had a discussion with R2elk the other day in pms' regarding feather sexing. He told me McMurray Hatchery now feather sexes instead of vent sexing. So if you go to their site and see which breeds are available as sexed chicks and which are straight run only you will see the breeds it works on. If you have mixed breeds I have no idea how to tell if it works or not. I think he said, if I recall, it is only valid on days 2 and 3.

EJB I am going to cancel on New Ulm, I think. It is just not worth the effort in these temps to try and get chicks down there in this cold and keep them alive let alone healthy. I will just have more for Peirz then.

Layers I am saying cockerel for now. might change my mind later on but for now I say cockerel lol.

One of my pullets I hatched last fall is laying. Beautiful dark Olive egg! And everydsy they keep getting darker! AND she is laying everyday!

And pics. Ralphie can you find the Legbar egg? 7 Blue/Green eggs the past two days!

Ed stay warm.

First jealousy over green grass yesterday.

Now salt ambiguities. Guilt.

Now jealousy again. Over toasty beds.

I need to go to church or something.
Or Ralphie needs to pee in the wind. rofl.

I'm off to do some jumping jacks and eat oatmeal made with almond milk.

Holmes that's an extraordinary egg.

What you did with the cow yesterday was also extraordinary. Not many people get that task or have the fortitude for it. I've said it before and will say it again kiddo. You are beyond your years. And if this gives you any comfort. June bug at home and not at slaughter house. Much better 'bad day' if there is such a thing. Hugs.

Amazing you should mention the peeing into the wind... Judy and I discussed my peeing habits this morning. She thought I should go ward off the predators near my pens, instead of using the nice warm bathroom for my morning duty... She is a cruel woman too!

I think that's a good idea. Nearly recruited someone to do the same when I saw a bear near my coop last fall.

OH... As long as you don't have electric fence around the coop, you should be okay. If you do, aim carefully....
