Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry, you are correct in us all being probably Plattdeutsch.
I remember LilMynx from our threads. I thought she was on this one though too...maybe not. Welcome back LilMynx.

Holm: sorry about the dead embryos. That's a bummer. Potential for a good hatch and then that happens. Frustrating no doubt. You're parents are raising you right on the chevy or GMC thing. Funny Layers...I thought you Westerners were Ford country out there. I know Montana is Ford Big time. Personally at this point in time I would love any vehicle with AWD or FWD that did not have rust and 230,000 miles on it. A chevy would be nice...but will consider other options.

Skies are blue out there and it is a fair looking day out there. It has that warmish day glow to it out there. I wish it wasn't Monday....and I wasn't at a desk.

The bald Eagle has been making his rounds about our yard. I wish I could tell if Junior is getting smarter about it or not. I think he has as he spends alot of time in the run with the girls. But I think also he's waiting for his egg layers to come out of nests as well. So it is hard to tell how good he is. (I'm comparing him again). Oh I wish that lake would open up and get them onto better things over closer to the lake.

Age of birds. Right now I have a BLRW laying a huge brown egg every other day. She is 3 years old. I thought she would lay 10 eggs and be done this spring...but she's been steady since February with her Every other day Pattern. Ivie. If you have production reds or production birds then perhaps they are done. I would also be doing some abdomen checks to see if you have internal layers. Soft abdomens are good. Firm, feels like a grapefruit in there is an internal layer and needs to be put down. That problem is more common then you think with those types. Also if you want to do another lice/mites check and make sure they haven't made a comeback...that might be a good idea. Those things can really tear down egg production. Are you being a stickler about layer feed mostly and keeping the scratch to a minimum? I've done that to myself as well. Too much treats and not enough of the feed they need to make eggs. Just shouting out some ideas. And then of course supervised free ranges to make them feel happy. That free ranging just puts them in egg-laying happiness. Spring in their little chicken claw steps...for sure.

No no no my grandpas Chevy lasted him over 25 years with very few issues!

And I am part lessor scandinavian!

Ours had 330,000 on it and still ran! And green is better then red by far! And I even have red hair

Here Are the pens I am getting the eggs for hatching from. Next time I am switching all birds to the black cockerel excpet the blue hen, she will go with the Frizzle and I will have some chicks I can sell right away from them.

What a great day, I came in for DinDin.... I have the shed open and find everything I want to do blocked by a Green Tractor that won't run. I have to pull it out of the way again...

I think we have this Red/Green argument every year, I would think you greenies would be tired of losing it by now...

Nice Birds Destiny, I will check them over for you and take those I deem to be culls off your hands my next trip to New Ulm....

Ralphie, the thing with the goose is just so wrong in a number of ways !!

The Vikings of old were of Norwegian descent, and my recollection is that the Swedes were of little bother to them. I do believe the Germans are better when it comes to working with and developing livestock of all sorts. I am 1/4 German.

As relates to motor vehicles. I spent over 30 years in the retail industry. Most of that time was as a sales mismanager or general mismanager of dealerships. I have been associated with all brands new and used with the exception of Honda. The used vehicle dealers always came looking for GM product. Less reconditioning was generally required and the parts were less costly than with Ford or Imports.

I am partial to red tractors, but I think that is more a result of early experience with that type of equipment than there being any real quality difference.

EJB I will agree with you about the Germans breeding programs.. I've judged dogs in Germany several times. Across the board their breeding requirements are quite stringent. The powers that be will even do home visits to inspect puppies. Parent dogs have to pass a battery of test to be allowed to breed. This includes instinct testing. Stringent requirements for all livestock. Especially horses. Sweden & Switzerland are the same.
