Surviving Minnesota!

And what about us that do not want broodies never let the eggs built up and still get them,,what do we do?

Complain, cos there ain't much else to do 'bout a chronic broody 'cept eat her.

Last summer, I always had at least one out of three games in the broody breaker... Little idjits

Silkies are the worst / best broodies . Grandma had some that found a wooden box with porcelain fence insulators . Set on those the whole summer .

Stupid birds!

My games try to hatch their feet.... I keep telling them they need eggs to get chicks.

They're the only birds I let hatch, because they are such great mommies. I had one hatch out a single chick, it drowned at a day old.... She was heartbroken and kept searching and searching for it... Felt so bad for her.

I had to boot a few broodies myself to the duck pen yesterday. Nothing worse than being harassed by ducks. Breaks them after a day or two.

@lvie , was it you who has the hen laying a soft egg? I had a hen like that as well. The other hens picked up on it really quick and would eat it in the nest box getting yoke and whites all over my good eggs. I ended up rehoming her. My birds all have access to oyster shells, layer feed, and anything else they can dig up free ranging. Nothing helped. It was only after her first year she started laying a soft egg and that was that. I hope you have a different experience.
