Surviving Minnesota!

Oh gawd... swede with German?! Poor Judy.

Ralphie I'm a firm believer that ER's should not be visited as well. DH popped his patellar tendon on a Friday night -- we strapped it down with an ace, fed him pain meds from wisdom teeth operation, ice and elevation and skipped the general practitioner and went right to orthopedics Monday.

If we went to the ER he would have got an ace wrap, pain meds- go to the regular dr. Advice, who then gets paid $200 to call the orthopaedic dr.
I love ERs!
But they sometimes serve their purpose... and getting prednisone and IV Benadryl, chat with a CT man, and an ice cream bar and advice to stay off BYC to avoid ocular hallucinations might make me go to one.

People were shocked that I didn't take DH to an ER right after. But I had better things to do.
I'm a female and a nurse BTW, with a penchant to make my husband understand his stupid mistakes. Lol.

J/k I kind of knew that nothing happens until Monday's.

I'm so glad you are with us Ralphie and Judy is a very patient lady.

DS is at the pheasant farm today having fun with buddies. A football fundraiser for the school.

DD home sick yet. Me? I got extra sleep like a person on iv Benadryl this Am. Need to get up and get in my yard. Lots of fun to be had out there. Moving Popple fire wood, picking up winter garbage (chewed up buckets and tennis balls) getting recycling to town, chicken coop plastic off and bunker bales pick up. Raking.

The life lesson I taught my 5 year old cousin today was that no one owns wild turkeys

. Not even kidding I had to explain it to her for about 5 minutes she's still confused.
Her and her younger sister still thinking when my chickens are breeding they are wrestling, I guess I'll have to tell them evuntally.
I have to say 5year old cousin did really well helping out moving chicks outside today I was pretty impressed!

P.S. they are from the city, Rapid City to be specific. Which explains a lot

Phew! Oh man. . . . got alot done today. Yippee. That big ghetto pile of metal on the left of that dumpster in the ghetto picture - who cares? Anyway I began by moving that. The DH will not be happy when he returns yet I asked for that pile to be moved two weeks ago. I blew a ton of leaves and it actually looks nice. This year It is my goal to clean up, burn up, throw away the stuff I have accumulated around here. Feeling accomplished tonight.

My chickens come by name when I call them. I am really seeing this happening this past week. Reggie, Gilda, Rosi, Irene and Copper are especially receptive. But Reggie, Gilda, Rosi and Irene share a coop together. They come from free-ranging to their coop when I call them. Isn't that cool?

Hope you are all doing well

Lots done today. Mnchickmom and family helped us test birds we go the Guineas, turkeys, cream legbars and the EE done today.

I have all the rest left. The turkeys are such a treat to test considering we need to draw 3 ml of blood from them. I feel beat up. Judy is acting beat up.

All in all it was a fun day though and their help was much appreciated.

You manage to escape doing guinea tests with a minimum of wounds?

How's the head?

I was absolutely elated to be able to put schooling to work so fast. Ralphie was such a great teacher that by the end I was calling the shots. Ummm or I was a little too "take chargish". We were able to enjoy a meal together out on the deck on April 8th. Who would have imagined? Now off to bed I go....this number cruncher is not used to so much fresh air.

Photo time!

- new chicks arrived Friday morning! The first time I ordered chicks I like to think I had "beginner's bliss" as I pretty much just trotted down to the feed store/elevator and picked up the box and literally dumped them out into the coop and carried on my day haha.....This chick order has been days and days of prep work, DH is such a trooper. BANTY CHICKS ARE ALMOST TOO CUTE TO BE REAL. Chick count is - 5 Black Austras, 3 Cuckoo Maran >> One of these 8 didn't make it, I can't tell the difference between breeds yet!!! 3 Welsies, 3 Speckled Sussex, 3 Brown Leghorn and 8 Banty Barred Rock. I had asked for "chickens" for Christmas and many obliged with gift certificates to hatcheries, so it's been fun to plan out my list.

- coop update! Please bear the mess. It was brooder prep day and feed day and things get dumped and slowly put away. No one else does this I'm sure.
