Happy to have found a Minnesota thread! My husband and I are hoping to start a small backyard flock of 3-4 hens in Minneapolis this spring. Does anyone in the area have experience buying/adopting chicks or pullets from sources other than traditional hatcheries (small farms, rescues, etc.)? Any recommendations?

Thanks, Cluckies! We're looking for chicks or young pullets that are used to being handled by people. We're interested in egg layers (although uber-productivity isn't important to us; we're going to consider them pets and will take the eggs as a bonus). One of the breeds we're interested in is Buff Orpingtons, but we're open.
