Surviving Minnesota!

My SS chicks are 4 weeks old now. They are very friendly. My DH is supposedly taking care of them while I sit in the hospital with my mom she is in icu. She hasn't woken today.

So sorry Erli! Hope everything goes well.

The Pollacks don't see eagles as well as I would love them too.  I'm not into feeding birds that are bait.

I'm worried about that with my 2 golden polish. Hopefully my roosters take extra good care of them

@erlibrd Sorry to hear about your mom, sending positive thoughts your way.

Introducing our newest addition! only took me 2 hours to get it! Can't tell if there are any others already hatched and don't know how long she will continue to sit, this little guy is feisty and wants to roam but I still hear lots of peeps from under my broody...she continues to roll the eggs but if they don't hatch soon,I think she will abandon them so she can care for this little guy - a Barred Rock I suspect and check out his legs, they are fuzzy like a Cochin!

and then thought I would share the latest pics of my greenhouse which is almost complete...just needs the raised beds inside and the potting shed built on the back...oh and a door!

Erlibrd - didn't know anything about your Mom and her distress. I am sorry to read about it. It is difficult with our parents.

Holm - I don't get it - did someone slam your buckeyes - your comment that they were nothing to laugh at caught me off guard because I did not read anything about them. Are they a noisy bird? Like I said previously a person would not know I have chickens if it weren't for the rooster crowing. I am to the point now that after my two roos are spent (at least another year) there aren't going to be any more roosters. No free ranging and no broodies so what is the point? I have one BO that keeps thinking she is going to hatch her own babies and by late afternoon she says ' ummmmmm - maybe not.'

Have fun Siggie -

I too put my chickies sectioned off in one part of the coop with a warm protectant after they have feathered out. Takes a while for the flock to get used to them and for them to adapt to being in the coop. I don't let them out of their area until they get quite large. As you know, if a chick needs attention I will let them kennel in the house but really do not want to brood chickies in the basement anymore.

I got the Easter Crayon bags finished today so they are ready for the elopement on Saturday. I get such a kick out of this eloping stuff.

Oh MnChickMom.... Could you give your number one daughter a message?

I need the SS back!!! The one cockerel I had hatch Jan 10th and kept for myself is a bust. She can have it.

The stupid guy has all white flight feathers and a crooked Comb. Other than that he is a perfect bird and she would enjoy showing it.

I separated birds by breed today to make my first cuts for show birds. What a bunch of losers I have! I screwed up and did not keep a female cream legbar that will be mature enough now. I must have over sold them. I am going to keep some 4 week old ones, but I thought I had kept January birds for myself.

I have lots of white though. I picked out 10 more to show and add to my flock. I hope can sell the rest. Also I have great PC's coming up.......

I also seem to have sold all my Polish, I was sure I had some of them that were older too. I need a secretary to keep my birds straight.

I have CLB roosters, which is ok as they take longer to mature, i also picked out more Doms for myself... You can tell "son" I have the perfect Dom cockerel for him, I doubt the judge will even notice the crooked foot.....Besides he is gonna lose anyways, so what diff does it make?

We have only received ss rooster from you, the one that daughter tamed is a young un yet. He was a summer 2016 hatch. If you need him back for breeding we can arrange it after I become npip. As for the doms.....I have enough dominique cocks for every kid in Benton County. (Not your stock)
