It is cold and wet here this morning, and I doubt the chickens will spend much time coming from under cover today. The forecast is for rain all day, but we do need it.

Jerry, my conscience has gotten the best of me, and so I will return the logs to their original pile prior to your coming North.

Ralphie, how many and what sex are your excess Spitzhaubens ? I may have an interest ?

Morning . Looks like another nice day here . Rain coming tonight . Got a appointment this morning . I will stop and buy some post setter concrete while in town . Started a small privacy fence .

I forgot to put the rain gauge out, DH will be angry. At least I didn't forget to put it away for winter and freeze it.

I have not put mine out either.

I am still on the snow gauge, just in case.

EJB I have 2 roosters and 5-hens. They are amazing birds, but people do not seem to like the smaller egg, It is on the larger side of medium. What people don't realize is how little feed goes into those eggs and how truly cold hardy they are.

I will keep a few, but I have my little house chick and she is a cuddling little Spitz girl. I know I should stop cuddling her and move her outside, but she just loves me so much. Way more than Judy does.

There you go, blame it one me. Everyone else does and they seem to do fine.

I actually, moved mine the other day and thought about putting it out, but decided we could still freeze and break it, Especially at a place like here where someone does not always empty it in a timely fashion.

Rain gauge ? I just check how much is in a 5 gallon bucket . I always have one or more sitting out . Except Saturday nights rain had wind and blew it over .

morning everyone....freezing rain here so far...we are expected to get up to an inch of rain today, makes for a dreary day but the rain is needed.

Does anyone know if a mouse will kill a day old chick? I found a small hole in the far north corner of my coop coming up through the deep bedding - small enough for a mouse to come through. I am just trying to figure out how my chick might have died the other day?

Silly me...I took out all the heated water dishes and this morning the water was frozen for the horses and the chickens. I use a heated dog water dish for the chickens...it worked this winter until it got around -10 then I had ice on the top.

had to remove all the deep water dishes so the chicks wouldn't drown and of course the water dish I have now that just lets water dribble out as they drink was frozen solid this morning!
