Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . My heart hurts for you Erlibrd. It is difficult loosing a parent even if they are in a better place. I am an orphan, which comes with living long enough to grow older. My prayer for you is that you find comfort during this process of grieving. Those of us that have been through it understand.

Hello Holm - so being that your dog was already spayed - not having to have her spayed recovered some of your adoption fees right? so therefore she was a good investment.  What is her name again and how is she working out, adjusting, etc.?

Bantiesrule - beautiful birds and cute chicks.

Siggie - how is your brooding going? I must have missed the end results of the hatch and what is currently happening.

Congrats ILL on the high jump mark. I just do not know much about track to say anything however you sounded excited so it must be a big deal.

Have a great day Chickeners . . . .

They were gonna refund us but my mom told them they could keep the money to help with the other dogs. The Humane Spciety would have spayed her there but since she was only brought in 2 weeks before we got her they never got her spayed because she was still going through rounds of shots. She got her last round the day we got her and they said we can take her as long as we have her spayed right away. Well we got an appointment set up but the vet was all booked up until yesterday.

Her name is Foxy :) She has kind of turned into my spoiled baby as I have a hard time disciplining her... When she knows she is in trouble she will roll over on her back and smile at you. So she knows how to play me like a fiddle. But she is scared of the chickens and cows so she doesn't go near them unless I am right there. She will run in the pasture with the kids by their fort but if we are all inside she lays on the cement slab by the basketball hoop and soaks up the sun.

Well....I still have 3 chicks, 2 Barred Rock/Cochin mixes and 1 Blue Cochin. The 4th chick got stepped on I think - I found it dead on the coop floor Saturday with it's poor little guts hanging out. My #1 broody hasn't hatched anymore that I can see but it has been pretty cold here the past few days and the chicks haven't been coming out as often AND it's too cold to sit in the coop all day like I had been doing ha ha! My #2 broody should start hatching hers on the 22nd. But they are sharing these 3 chicks so it will be interesting what happens when she starts her hatching? I put a little cage around the two broodies to keep the chicks safe from being trampled. I may have another broody, she sat all day yesterday on 2 eggs but when she came out this morning I snatched them from her , I'm so mean!

No need for the clouds Holm - they have arrived. This time the weather person was right in his prediction only it is happening a little earlier than what he said. He said late this afternoon - or is the rain arriving late this afternoon?

Chicken Update per Son: I am the worst chicken owner ever. I let his 8 week old Dominique Cockereal run in the coop with a very docile EE hen. The hen chased the cock and boy did I receive a lecture from my son about how he could have died from heart attack from being chased or worse yet pecked to death. According to son, I do not love his Dominique as much as son loves his Dominique.

And I was afraid of the drama the daughter would bring.......just give her a PC to hold and love and she is fine.

On a postive note: all the little roo's have been sentenced to a life in the bachelor pad. Awesome new coop complete with walk out dog kennel for protection from the Eagles. They are loving life. The 2 Silver Yokahamma's don't venture outside to often but the Dominiques, Buckeyes and mutts just love it.

I am impatiently awaiting the Field Test part of my Testing Agent Course. Well.....maybe I should be more patient and kill 2 birds with one stone and wait for June when I can test the whole flock and become NPIP certified.

We have started the annual rock picking extravaganza....anyone and everyone is invited to help. Soon we will be zone tilling and planting corn and beans. Say good bye to all free time once that starts. My father in law has all the equipment repaired, and ready to go, he is such a maticulus man in regards to his equipment. I admire that about him, we rarely have breakdowns due to his pre-planning. Breakdowns due to rocks and mud is a whole nother topic.
