Surviving Minnesota!

B r r r . . . I am going to start the fireplace to take the chill out of the air in the house. I will do that and make a beef stir fry for dinner and enjoy all the bad news on channel 5. Seriously, staying inside has me almost prepared for a work comp audit on Monday. I am impressed with me!

Sorry Siggie about the baby chick. Is it at all possible for women (95% of us) to stay unemotional about any kind of a baby anything? And Holm - that little EE is so o o o cute! It is too bad about the feet. Sad.

I need to go give the flock some feed and I am procrastinating going outside. Might as well get it over with. Well, here goes - that outdoor life by lvie.

Ivie the chick with the curly toes is actually a Pure Buckeye from my birds. I might have called it an EE... Oops....

The way it sounds it usually works really well.  So thought it might be worth the effort.

I've never had to do it but anyways you boys probably know best.  :idunno Maybe it doesn't work the best.

I suppose if one is patient enough they could get the boots on... I get too frustrated and end up giving up... I tried that once with a Welsummer I guess BC. So I guess I have tried it. It didnt work...

Naw Holm - very nice of you to say you may have called it an EE but you did not - I don't think - it really does not matter in five years does it?

Jerryse and Bogtown Chick - sent you a message about bushes and I need to get back to her. You need to tell me how much to spend IF you are still going to do this and when we can do the exchange. Jerry - do ya know when you are traveling in this direction yet?

Hello everyone! Got a couple of pics today....let the momma's out of the cage for a bit to stretch their legs. A few of the flock came to visit and didn't seem to mind the chicks at all. It was so dreary my most of my pics did not turn out in the dark coop but I did manage to get a shot of 9 of the chicks complete with my little Silver Cochin I found cold and lifeless the other day, who is alive and well, eating and drinking without issue (in the middle of the first pic)

And I miscounted big time on the chicks...I only have 11. There are still 7 eggs under the second broody waiting to hatch. I witnessed the switch again as well...both broodies came out to eat and stretch and then broody #1 went and sat on the 7 remaining eggs?...they are sharing ALL duties! But they are also sharing the same nest box now. I'm thinking because it's easier to be with the chicks?

Oh and here is a pic of the ONLY chick with a yellow beak! All the others have black beaks.

What did you hatch? Cute little things!

I am about to go make a feed run to L&M and they had a huge batch of chicks come in yesterday. I must gain self control....

I have the same problem! I got some feed the other day and came home with an older Goldstar chick. My 3wk old Buff Orp lost her much older buddy - it was time for her to go to the big coop. Made sense for me to get another =)

@holm25 , I brooded some chicks in November and they developed crooked toes. I couldn't figure out why it all of a sudden happened when they were 2 weeks old or so. Someone told me the brooder floor was too cold and they were right. But I tried to get the toes straight with coban and cardboard. Didn't work, but I think they were maybe too old. Long story short, good luck. I'm sure he'll be delicious. Just sayin'.
