Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning Ivie and Ralphie. Did you come up here ivie?! And I missed you? Or did jerry stop on the way home? It's been such a week, I tell you. The car business was a marathon. But it's done and I can settle into a nice weekend. I have a brown strip across my text as I type so forgive my typos. On my mobile.

I hope some of the others navigate the new site ok and rejoin us.

Ralphie I'm sorry you're losing another Bert. I guess maybe it's a good life for them walking around young but as they get abut older- like a turkey almost...?

Well time to get off to the days business.

Good Afternoon All~
It saddens me to report that our not-so-beloved rooster is enjoying his last 24 hours of life. We have a Speckled Sussex rooster that was not cuddled enough when he was younger. About 2 weeks ago he decided to attack my husband...to which I didn't pay much attention...my husband is a big a boy and can fend for himself. Same week Mr. Roo decided to attack my 12 year old (adult sized) daughter, leaving blood and bruises. With the help of her brother they held him for 30 minutes upside down and everywhich direction to remind him who was boss. Well he soon forgot because I received a phone call while at work yesterday, "Mom he attacked again, I have 8 new bruises I had to beat him to save my head. The coop is a mess. I told him he was going to be my dinner guest this weekend, and he flared up at me, like he wanted round 2. So I won round 2."

Daughter has taken the liberty to get all things ready for culling tomorrow morning. Including setting the special knife down saying, "I will be doing the honors. Don't you dare think you (Mom) will be culling tonight while I am babysitting."

Ummmm Note to self: "Remind all future boyfriends of hers, that she has a fiesty side."

Morning all.

I am going to spend the day getting ready for Monday's inspection, again.

I am thinking Bert will be gone when I let the birds out. He was a tough old bird for a Toad. I will have to pick a new Bert today. I might skip a generation as I am not sure any of his kids qualify.

I am making a quick trip to Monticello to Visit Runnings and Walmart then it is out to the barn.

Good Luck! You will do wonderful...especially since you decreased the Guinea population. :)

Ralphie - coffee is hot if there is time. House is a M E S S! Momof many - I want some of your energy - please . . . .

I am needing some of that energy back right now! Running on fumes. Good thing it is the weekend in a few hours and I can then breathe a little and do things for "me". That always helps. Once I get things in order in at least one place I always feel more in order in other places. It's been another long week. Still looking for summer vacation!

That rooster had nooo clue what he was getting himself into! I wonder what he will weighs dressed out? Would you be able to weigh him?

Best of luck with your cull tomorrow... I have a Buckeye too and some hens who may go tomorrow if the weather is nice...

Well we have a predator around here... Not a Coyote or anything... The cows stampede TOWARDS coyotes and dogs... They came on a dead run from the West pasture yesterday and straight to the south pasture... Once in the south pasture they ran and ran and ran in a big group... So there is something lurking that we aren't seeing... There was a Timber wolf around last summer but they didn't act like this when he was around. My grandpa said he would put money on it being a bear... Wouldn't be the first time one has been seen around here... Gonna look for tracks this evening if I don't chicken out...

Just wondering,,, is it possible the bad rooster lived here at one time?

Is it the one that disappeared from here at the same tome I unloaded a Yoki on your DH?

Speaking of predators, Coffee called the other day, she has a fox going into her coop to grab birds. She saw him the other day..

Yesterday she was 15 ft from her, she was so brazen she grabbed a chicken and took off while she watched...

I think she is going to set up a hunting blind to surprise him today.

Yes sir it is.... I hope you have no hurt feelings about it. We were fully warned when we purchased him. He has done his duty and given us babies....albeit no full blood sussex babies....so no hurt feelings seeing him go.

You extended his life by 6 months or so. I had planned to make dinner out of him when you took him.... I just hope your not upset he was such a Lower Colon Sphincter Muscle..

It is hard to believe him and Cuddles can be full brothers.
