Surviving Minnesota!

Okay - so the pictures are Copper - the EE Roo and the SS is the hen that I found with Wry Neck. She recuperated well. Sorry there was such a long time to wait because I knew each of you were holding your breath and saying 'What the?' the next-door neighbor came over to look at her wedding pictures from Saturday. My pictures weren't anything that special (like Holms does) but I was the photographer (scary.)
I had to clean out the nest boxes today. Rosey has been sitting on her five eggs since 6-25 (and it was probably a couple days before that even) and so that means hatching within 10 days and I wanted it somewhat cleaned up. She took it pretty well and when all was cleaned up she went right back to laying on the eggs. Good girl and such a nice broody. Of course this is ALL SIGGIES fault! Since you hatched earlier and posted the process and pictures I wanted to do this. Now, this afternoon, Rosey was out drinking water but then went right back to the nest. She had not been getting off the nest before today. I was feeding and watering her i the nest. Hence, stinky.

Ralphie so sorry :(

Princess has 3 keets, just hatched today. I wasn't expecting them for two more days. Bitzy is still hanging out with the princess so what's going to happen with that, I wonder?

I can't seem to shut the incubator off. What's wrong with me.... I haven't loaded any chicken eggs in there for well over 6 weeks. Peafowl started laying though and I couldn't resist. So while I was at it I threw some of the muscovy eggs in there too. Not your regular ducks though.... parents were out of Jim/Patti Zimmerman's and bigtime show stock. So of course they went in there too and lovely summertime humidity messes with hatches. I got 3 peachicks and 3 muscovies out of all that so far. I think I got a screw loose...

I ran a cord and plugged in the coop. The birdies needed a fan tonight. I gave cut up plums, in ice water. I think it hit the spot. For them.

I like a crazy chicken lady also cleaned the coop. Whew. Needless to say I turned into water. My son put his hand on my back and pulled it away fast, "ew gross, you're all wet." Humidity is a factor today.
And who ordered a double dose of deer and horse flies?!
Any ways new shavings. New straw. Momma feels better. Getting pretty strong with the ammonia/heat.

Ralphie did you power wash the deck yet?

First day of a low carb diet. Did pretty good. We'll see how it all goes. 1st week is tough. I about caved when DS cracked a Pepsi tonight. Arg... but need to get a good jump on this and low carb works for me.

The deck is properly washed, scrubbed and disinfected BC!!!!

I moved the game cams yesterday to the pen hit the night before. It seems I never have them on the right pens.

I was attacked last night at chicky bedtime. It appears the latest incarnation of Bert does not like to be told when to go to bed. Toads are so easy going, this Bert is an exception. I have a 1/4 inch deep hole in my chin to prove it.

The chicks were being slow and fighting bedtime. I have 8-10 in a bunch before the door with no one moving so I swished my foot at them to get them to move. Bert reared back and hit my bare chin with all his might..

The Offending young Bert:

He looked so sweet, just before he attacked! I think he will be perfect when he grows into his frame. He has SOP colors for a Bert to a tee.

More pictures....

A young royal palm, I am going to start using RP's more in my breeding. I like the idea of a smaller turkey for Judy and I as food. In Addition the RP will allow me to do some more interesting things with the colors of my future flock. I am looking forward to making some penciled turkeys and some tri-colors.

Speaking of turkeys, because I have not placed Mom in some cheap nursing home, yet. I lost a toad chick yesterday. She refuses to listen and had to stand and watch Snitch the turkey hen and her baby toad. Snitch is a nervous mother and managed to stomp the toad to death in an over protective gesture.....Anyone have room for an old lady to save me having to send her to a home? downloadfile-4.gif

One of my whites with the comb size I like, not the proposed SOP likes...and another that decided to crawl under some machinery and make bathing time extremely hard on me.

The one above is pretty close to what the SOP calls for in a comb and crest. I really prefer larger crests and smaller combs.

This is Andy, I don't think I have showed his picture in about a year.

My fans are on too. I agree, was dripping yesterday. Icky.
Once again the ran totally missed us. We haven't had any rain in weeks, outside of 2/10ths of an inch. Terrible. Starting to feel like Ill.

I do low carb BTC. Actually, keto with intermittent fasting. Just always eat lchf, then neven ever have a bad first few days again :)

Morning . Summer has come to the far north it seems . I ordered 2 of those cooling shirts to help . Knee is almost back to normal . Started taking some osteo bi flex to help . I bought sketcher shoes before last trip for better support . Grandson got a weeks vacation scheduled . So he will be going to help this next trip . See if I can keep up with him . He can out work me now . 4-5 years ago he could not . Hope to get a lot done with his help . Maybe get the beam , floor joists and subfloor done that week .

Ralphie, that is bad news about the loss to predation ! Hope you get the culprit before more losses.
Nice photos from all who posted. I don't take any but it is nice to see those of others.

Good luck with the project Jerry. It goes much quicker with good help.
