Surviving Minnesota!

Elise - I love that coop! Do you need any chickens to go into it. I have nine chickens that lay and one rooster who is very nice and I am over populated. I would let them go to someone on here. The Roo is nice, gentle and quiet crow! Why let laying chickens go? I just do not want this many chickens. I do not want to get another coop to overwinter them. Let me know.

I do have 3 hens and 1 roo (I think). They're still young, about 10 weeks old give or take. So I don't think we'll be getting any more before next spring. Still cutting our teeth on the chicken business. :)

Hello chickeners . . . . I have been outside on this beautiful day sweating over the coop the next door neighbor made for me a year ago. The DH won't let it be seen in the yard. I am trying to 'fix it up' and came in for a break. Then I started asking myself 'why?' am I doing this. I do not want 24 birds. Maybe 12. And have decided to 'get rid of' (cannot cull a bird especially if it is actively laying and there are 10 I want gone. The CW and 6 GC and the CLB (one which is a quiet, gentle roo.) They lay every day. I never intended to have over 12 birds and sell eggs. So, anyone needed layers that are actually laying and will be at least another year, if not two more, give me a shout.

Do you think Jerry will miss this one?!

Better not.

I'm feeling the space in the coop cramping up with the cockerel club growing. Right now it's ok. But come winter.

Oh ivie if I could adopt them I would. 12 is a nice number. I hope to be down to 8 by winter. Maybe 9.

Well, one of my friends raises chickens. This past Spring out of 16 hens they might get 3 eggs a day - maybe. So her DH culled them and they got straight run from Ralphie. A few of those expired and they are getting old enough to tell cockerels vs pullets. She figures she will be down to 10 hens after they cull the roosters. So . . . . she will take eight of the hens. The 6 Gold Comets I got from Runnings last September and the two California Whites that came to live here in Spring of 2016. All laying consistently. I will keep Reggie and Regina because she does not need another rooster and I don't want him done away with. I know, I am such a woose. I, me, myself, have been working on that other coop today and have it framed again. I pulled the coop portion apart just because I did not like it. Too difficult to clean and not warm enough for winter use. I am putting in a floor, swing doors for cleaning, and an easier way to access eggs (gotta figure that out yet) I raised the roof so that the birds can roost - as it was there was not enough head room for roosts. Then I will enlarge the run (its 4 x 8) because they will not be free ranging. So this is one step in preparing for winter. A confidence builder so I can move over to the better coop/run to build an enclosed coop for winter in that coop. Phew! BIG load off the mind about those hens.

Hello all..

Been a few days. I just finished my monthly hospital visit. Pneumonia this time.

I am gong to get rid of a ton of chickens, maybe all except a few layers. if anyone of you want some come and get them. I will just give them to any of you. It is not fair to the birds or my wife when I can't take care of them.

I am even thinking of getting rid of Cuddles, and if you know Cuddles you know how serious that is. He is my buddy. The perfect rooster, good to his girls and jumps into my arms for hugs. (or treats).

I am going to try and keep a few of the birds for the Hutch show, some legbar, chanticler, SS and my Doms.

I am debating what to do with my toads. I am getting about 10 eggs a week from them. I suppose I will be letting them go too.

I have only been mushroom hunting a couple times this year. I hope I can get out again this fall.

Now a word of advice to all of you.......If anyone (A Lawyer) talks you into joining a class action lawsuit, slap him silly about the head and shoulders.... My lungs were burnt about 25-30 years ago when a rail car spilled benzene. Most of my problems the doctors trace back to that, they have a fancy term for it.

I got $1,200 for my injuries as they were not "severe" enough at the time. The lawyers got 50 million. Class action suits benefit one group of people only, lawyers..

Going back to bed, TTYL..

Hope I am not too big of a downer today.

I'm so sorry. I hope you find suitable places for your birds. Praying for you....

Got stung by a wasp on the arm last night... Now it's all swerved up and hurts like hades... I'm only mildly allergic so as long as I don't get stung on the face or neck I'm fine...
