Surviving Minnesota!

Holm's sorry to read about the dog. Good that it will survive and as BC wrote it is a wonder how they adjust and become very functional with the new challenge.

BC sorry to read about putting the dog down. Must be tough for your Mom. those critters have a way of worming into one's heart. Glad to read your dad is progressing.

Good morning Ed. Thank you for your good thoughts on Dad.

Did you have many more races this summer? I feel like we didn't catch up with you like we usually do.
Wife still working like crazy ?

Ralphie I need a check in if you don't mind, friend...?

We are driving up to lake vermilion. Friday morning for the last hurrah in the rv. Walleye fishing is usually great and the kids have a blast. I relax and read while they all fish. Usually cool at night. Have to turn on heater. It's fall weather usually that trip. I kind of like it.

Those are all really pretty birds Holm!!! Sorry to hear about Foxy. She should he able to adapt well.
I am going to consign birds to New Salem today. 3 of the 4 Cochins I was going to consign all dissapeared. Sometimes they slept in the barn so I am guessing something got them in there but not really probable since the barn cats are always in there. The only one left is a Frizzle pullet. So I am going to keep her, maybe buy a cockerel this spring just to sell some chicks since I always get people asking for ones to just run around but and I do not want to sell any out of my BQ and SQ ones.
Someone is buying the 5 RSLs so that leaves me to 4 Leghorns, 1 SLW, and 1 PR to sell for layers. Then the Icelandics and SFH pairs. I have decided to keep Bresse until I find someone who realizes the true value of them.

BC glad to hear your dad is getting better. Hopefully he can come home and stay home within the expected time span!

Well I better get going the roosters sound impatient in the coop right now and it's 6. Guess they want to get out and run around before it hits the 90s again

Our dog Foxy had an accident today... She decided to go lay under a running vehicle and one of her back legs got ran over... She will be fine but the leg has to be amputated... Such a young dog who has a long life ahead of her and she will have to do it on 3 legs... The vet figured we could try screws and plates for the broken bones but he said that it is most likely not going to work because of bone shards... So he said amputation is best unless we want to risk a $2000 surgery... They kept her at the office tonight and will get to her surgery in the morning. They couldn't do the surgery tonight because they wanted to make sure she was stable... We are crossing our fingers that nothing goes wrong over night... We already lost one dog this year and really don't want to lose another...

SO SORRY to read this Holm. We have been here as you lost the first dog and adopted Foxy and it is difficult to hear this. Dogs! And then the roo being re-homed too.

Oh boy holm. Sorry to hear the pup will be 3 legged but they do seem to learn it very well from a friend's dog I know. Living to be a ripe old age on 3 .
Today I helped mom put down their 17 year old daschund. Too much work for grandma coming up and a dog making messes on the floors. It was time. Sad day for her. I had to come - hold the dog and bury her as mom couldn't do it.
Dad Transferred to nursing home near by until that swelling gets down. Probably only 2-3 days then he'll be home.
Uffdah another big day of running and chasing. Tired tonight...
Goodnight.

So much happening all at once BC. Very emotional time. Alot seems to be falling on your shoulders too. Are there any siblings to share some of these extra circular

Seven of the hens went bye-bye yesterday, late afternoon. Then I moved the two GLW into a section of the big coop. There were 16 in that coop, now there are 12. Nice number. There are still four hens with Reggie in the small coop. Still too many but definitely making progress in the right direction. The drop in egg count is, of course, dramatic.

Thank you all... DnL! and Lvie! You guys are so generous with your thoughts.
I hope to get back to talking about chickens more so than anything. But I must say I appreciate the supportive outlet here and you marvelous people are more supportive than you know with a few key strokes. I'm a lucky girl.
Lvie one sister about an hour away from Mom and one in the South Metro. The South Metro sister did ALOT of running while dad was in the hospital and the other family also did alot in St. Cloud. I was there too but also maintaining a happy boss at work and kids with jobs and so on so forth. We all communicate well with eachother for the most part. And thank goodness Dad still has Mother.

Oh Gosh TFred. More photos of the girls practicing and Rooster....I'm a chicken photo junkie. My fingers are crossed for you. The practicing can be a couple weeks...but hopefully it won't be long. yeah....him waiting on the ramp is a good sign. All good signs.
Sometimes the coop if insulated is also a cooler/shady spot to be on a warm day. But I will be thinking positively that it's 'practice'.
