Surviving Minnesota!

Come on over, I can give you lessons in bathing chickens. Bring heavy duty rubber gloves it is a dirty job. BUT the birds appreciate the baths..:lau:lau:lau
Or something.

I'm not looking forward to bathing showbirds. The only one I've done as of yet is a Sultan hen that sat perfectly still for bathing and fell asleep whilst I was trimming her crest and blow drying her. I was able to put her on a towel and leave the room without her running off.

Edited for grammar.

Hello Chickeners . . . . I have a question that maybe you can help me with. Its about that little CLB pullet who is such a sweetie. She acts weird, looking like she is having a seizure - like she is going to vomit but never does. She does not put on weight. She does get food into her crop and empties it out by morning. Any ideas of what could be wrong? I

I am not sure what is wrong, but I have one that is kind of like that. I have found feeding her high protein has helped. I know she was sick earlier.

I would try the "show bird conditioner" from fleet farm a ton of vitamins and minerals in 24% protein. It is too expensive to feed this only. I would also get a bag of 32% calf conditioner "Calf Manna" It is around $14.

I feed this with a couple tablespoons full of the conditioner. BTW this same concoction will speed up the re-feathering after a molt.

I had to wash a bird last night... The oil was changed on the tractor and not disposed of right away and it looks like one of my little EE pullets I hatched this spring decided to take a bath... So I dumped the oil and used some Dawn Dish soap and it worked wonder...

It appears as though all went to bed early yesterday ? Erlibrd is not early this morning.
It rained very little yesterday and is not forecast here until perhaps this afternoon we could see some showers. We have not had freezing temperatures yet but that will likely happen soon.
There is a funny article in the Duluth News Tribune this morning about a grouse hunters dog being chased by a wolf or wolves actually. To a degree it demonstrates to me the nuisance that these animals actually are. The dog seems to have a higher degree of intelligence than the members of Howling For Wolves ? He would not leave the truck and go into the woods for the rest of the day. He only got away from the wolf by leaping through the open window of the truck.
I'm not keen on wolves myself. They were "reintroduced" into Yellowstone Park in the 90s, and it isn't super happy times for the shepherds.

Some "people" just do not seem to understand they were removed from an area for a reason.....I guess if you live in a large metropolitan area you can believe the fairy tales about them. For those of us in the country the fairy tale has come crashing down on us.

Good morning all!

I've seen some PC conversation the last couple of days. Pleased to go out this morning and find my last pullet in the nesting box.
