Surviving Minnesota!

Good Afternoon quiet Chickeners , , , , me too. DH just returned home. He did not hunt this season. Maybe next weekend he says. the DS saw one deer but too far off. Now he is blowing out the sprinklers and shutting down the water feature. Its still light outside - he will get er done. :hmm
We are having one of our favorite fall dinners tonight. Cook Bacon crumbled over mashed potatoes with diced onion added on top and a vege on the side. Apple crisp does sound kind of good and I had better go get it in the over right now. Cook the bacon in the oven too. :frow

I will check back in a while to find out what you chickeners are having for dinner. Any dessert with it?

Dissapointment here . DW and grandson went somewhere and ate while I was hunting . Did not bring me anything . So ham salad sandwich and pumpkin pie .

Well Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Its cold - not really cold yet Minnesotans. This does not hurt - yet. I love living on the river - it changes all the time.
DH got alot of winterizing done yesterday with many extra clothes on because it was cold to work in. Today I am going to go dig the chicken run up, bury the leaves that are in there deeper into the soil and then add new leaves on top. It will be the last time this year and the worms love it and the chickens love the worms come spring. Then I gotta add sand and ash to their bathtub so they can cleanse.
That new little coop I rebuilt this past summer - there are six birds in that 4 x 8 with a 4 x 4 coop on top. I will clean that up today also and add to their bath tub. But that 4 x 4 coop - they are loving it. Anytime I open the door to gather eggs or check on the birds at night it seems to be pretty warm in there. I left two inches of hardware wire framed in at the top on two sides. Working like a charm.
And that little sicky CLB - Ony (because she is the only CLB that my friend had that survived whatever it is that they had) is chipper as can be. She is, of course, part of that flock now.

PGing cows today at our place and 2 neighbors. Thankfully it has warmed up so it is looking like 15-20° all day. A big change from the temps the past couple days

Low of 17 this morning with high predicted of 30. I am thinking the snow is here for the duration.

BC, congrats to your son on a nice buck. Hope the photo was taken in your yard.

Multiple Owls hooting in the pine trees this morning before dawn. They would like to have another pigeon or chicken on their menu but that will not happen.

Holms, I will repeat that " you can't eat the rack ". I suggest that a young tender buck is a better option.

I think now that it is light out it is safe to release the flock to free range. Their travels are much limited with the current conditions.

Weird. For some reason Day light savings was off my radar. And falling back is my favorite one too.

Indeed. Cockerels abound this time of year. I still have a wellie boy if any one is interested. His name is Sean. He is not an attacker. A big fraidy pants as roosters should be.

I think he’s soup. But will need to wait for a late Indian summer in November or next spring.
