Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry we are, I will pm you are plans. I have not had a problem with them dying, however, the "other" breeders seem to have one. I am guessing my superior poultry skills have kept mine alive.

I will be hatching my first batch of next year soon. I plan to set on Dec 12th. If I get turkey eggs (I have one that has been laying and submitting to the toms, she is a real slut)... I have not had one in 2 days, but any I get from now on will get hatched I will set them on Dec 5th.

Some of us are challenged by the Toad boys! The Toad girls are wonderful. I had 3 early quitters on my last batch. I have yet to hatch a Toad egg. I did set more Toad eggs on Sunday November 19th. But I think there are only 7 in there. This hatch is more to check the fertility of the the new Buff Orps. I have 20 BO eggs in the incubator as well.

I have 3 boys that are pushing a year old now, 2 that are 2 years old. The one Bert lived just shy of three years and died of a fly strike because a SS rooster pecked a hole in is butt and I missed it until it was too late, He still lived 4 months after I fixed the fly strike but was not the same after it..

I have more Toad boys if either of you want them. I hate to butcher them just because of the bad luck you two have... I am hoping to raise 50 or so for eating this year.

BTW I am now breeding that rooster someone forbid their sweet perfect Hubby from bringing home last time he was here...You know when he took my washing machine...Because you never forbid washing machines...just toads....

I can so identify with him and how he follows orders from the wife!!!

In all seriousness, it may be that Ralphie has developed a feeding regimen which if adhered to allows the Toads to survive ? Perhaps others are too kind ?
I will say that out of respect for our poultry friends I will not be eating fowl on Thanksgiving ! OK maybe I told a little fib there.
Ralphie, I am giving serious thought to the development of a type of Marans without the single comb. Jerry, any suggestion of a breed of rooster to use with Wheaten hens ?
Perhaps White Chantecler ?

Chantecler would be good . No telling what is hidden under white but partridge would be a good guess . So I would go back to Marans for the second generation .

Jerry so when you are on youtube you put your mouse cursor right over the video window and right click. Copy Embed Code. You always want to embed for this site. Then switch back over to BYC screen. Start your reply. Click on that little icon that looks like camera film and then right click info in the small black and blue box. Click Embed. Et Voila.
Now the picture may not show up until after you've saved your work and posted.
