Surviving Minnesota!

SS spots change with each molt. They get more spots as they age. They will sometimes exhibit white feathers. Completely white feathers are not desirable. Tried to get a pic of my two little pullets, but they wouldn't stop foraging long enough.

They are so pretty... and the spots change... ok I might order one just for the spots. I'm running a mixed flock atm. Still really want my bbs orps back cant find any though. I think I'll have to settle for bufs.

No need to order, I have quite a few that will not make it as show birds, but they are still pretty and friendly.

Meanie!!
Why must you make me lust after breeds I cannot have?

Question for you all. I ordered 15 Buckeyes from Meyer hatchery last year. I lost one as a chick, ended up with 7 pullets, and 7 cockerels I think. One cockerel got picked off by an owl so now I have 6. They are all terrible to the pullets now so they need to be culled down. My problem is the biggest ones has a crooked toe. I'm not planning to show them or anything, so would I still be justified in keeping him solely on size since at least 4 of them are considerably smaller than him. I'm mostly interested in birds that are good for eating in their case. I still try to sort of stay close-ish to SOP though. Basically, how heritable are crooked toes?

Now I do have other choices available for you, one lives in the center of lakes and woods, but her parents have not gotten her a car even. So I am thinking the dowry might be a tad low, which would make my cut even lower.

This finding you a wife is a nearly full time job, and I do need a larger dowry or inheritance to make it worth my while.

Oh God I pity the boy/man that gets her. But yes low dowry is definitely a consideration.
Holms might be better off at Eel pout festival with the girls that wear red bikinis under the parkas.

Ralphie, good luck on a finders fee for a large Dowry. Dilly! Dilly!
Hmarg, I don't know that you would need to select the largest cockerel for future breeding purposes. I would be concerned with all traits but not select one of the small ones. Those that are toward the large side should be included in a general evaluation.
BC, I had no idea about the girls with red bikini under their parka. Is that an activity which was started by you back in the day ?

R2elk is right! Annie viciously guards her little SS babies. She adopted & raised them. Y'all need to get Cuddles babies from Ralphie! Here is my hen Annie...at her most fierce!
