Surviving Minnesota!

I give..How did you people know it was ILL birthday?

Holm, did you come home from the fishing trip? Are your knees wet and cold? Did you get a fishy?

I still have to detach the head from a tom. I cannot decide who's head to detach.

I’m alive. Had the heater and house out so didn’t get cold. Only a few fish.

I decided now is the time to worm.
Dang gross things.

Freya has shut down on eggs too this week. So it is officially too short on daylight for chicken ovaries. She was pumping out 5-6 a week. End of January early February we’ll be back in business.

I took some photos down at the coop yesterday. I love new feather puffed out hens.
They look huge.

You can see the litter I went with in the run. Happy with the hay on oak leaves there. Nice loft going for the birds’ feet. I bring down house room temp water each morning and they get their morning water. For some time I notice that it’s still a slurry or slightly froze at roost time but the birds seem to know when to get their drinking in. If it’s real cold I’ll get another one down there later on. But I’ve went without a cookie tin heater the last winters. I alternate two founts. Thawing one in the house each night before it replaces the frozen one the next morning. It stays out in the run as well.

Shaw I love your bacon advice.

Holms I have a young man k drilling here and there but it’s so patchy on thickness . I think today and yesterday have it in the 3-4 inch area now. Neighbor boy picked up a nice walleye er I mean bullhead in our crappie spot last night. I won’t be able to tell him no much longer.
