Although I have not asked any how happy they are it seems they are happy enough when confined. I would say that access to an aviary is something that is of importance. Fresh air and exposure to sun.

Back to your last post while you and your not as agile self was logging...Did you manage to miss all falling trees and not have one land on you and kill you?


I am biased, but I do know one pigeon made a great pet for a kid....BUT a herd of pigeons was enough to make a barn a mess.

I was able to avoid being killed or maimed by any of the falling trees, but it is a little concerning when they get hung up in another tree when they fall.
That requires additional consideration of physics and geometry to figure a way to get them down without cutting the other tree.
I believe I will wait til the snow melts down before doing additional logging since I have 9 cords piled up already. The Saturday activity was primarily for exercise.

As with all endeavors control and management are key elements in pigeon keeping. If one allowed their flock of chickens, turkeys or etc. to roost randomly in the rafters of the barn you would have an even larger mess.

There is currently a video on you tube of a Canadian farmer who has been befriended by a feral pigeon. The bird acts as the one you described. Flying to perch on the man even when he is working on his tractor. They have bird brains but smarter than most people realize and likely more intelligent than many humans.

5:31 and it’s still light out. Pretty good. Haven’t been put to lock birda up yet... Woke up with heart burn and still have it... Anyone have any secret remedies? Lol

A shot of ACV or if that's too strong for you a tsp. of baking soda in a glass of water will work.
