Surviving Minnesota!

@I Love Layers Wow! What a good-looking cadre of Roos you have there!

Do the rabbits just flock with the chickens? Are they something you’re raising or are they gone feral?
They pretty much flock with the chickens. We feed them, and if we can catch one that we see is pregnant we bring them in. Almost all of them are friendly, you can pick a lot of them up and pet all of them. I wouldn't say they are feral but they do as they want, and breed as they please. Half of them are out of my younger sisters registered Flemish Giant doe so those ones were purposeful, most of the others were out of litters they had around the yard.

I would like yard rabbits, but they would not last long here. Too many hawks, eagles and government dogs.

Here is a SS in advanced lapper training. He/she was not all that interested in watching “all good dogs go to heaven”.

Morning . Cloudy with off and on light rain here . Yuck . Like the yard rabbits . I have done that before . Predators always put a end to that .
They wouldn't last long here, either. My dog would be a major factor in that, but even without him there are too many hawks, owls, eagles and coyotes that would wipe them out.

I just love the looks of SS. Someday (not this year) I would love to buy some SS chicks from you, Ralphie - even if they are culls because they're not SQ. I just want some to add some interesting color to my flock. I have no interest in showing birds.

I have my first finished maple (alright mainly box elder) syrup bottle...

This is a weeks work and more expense than I care to think about...

But it sure tastes good. I found I have to finish the last bit on the stove. You can tell when it starts to get close and needs to be finished by the way it boils. Instead of boiling like water it looks like I remember corn syrup and candies that my grandma use to make when I was a kid.

It also starts to “foam” just before that point. I have an additive that defoams it. I never used it I just stirred it and the foam went away.

My granddaughter even likes the taste of it...

I hope to double production this week.
