Surviving Minnesota!

Layers congrats on your white tail! You said you wanted one and you got one. DH drools over the Muley photos but I shared your views on the meat and he took pause... lol. You are teaching the Minnesotans a thing or two on this thread. That’s for sure. It makes sense. And I will say that a white tail shot on the Chippewa National Forest will probably taste different than one shot on a SE Minnesota corn farm. Lol. Love it all. Fun to have you on here with those fantastic photos.

Erlibrd I don’t see any deer either...but I had a huge 20-30 point buck jump in front of the van on the way out here today...around 5 am..

I am on the top of one of the Moose Mountains... (I think we have 4 of them in the state))

I have decided this is my last time up here. It is a long hike up a steep grade..then over the crest and down to my blind. Reverse on way back.

I am too old for this.

The trails are packed glazed icy snow.. I almost killed myself slipping down the hill last night.

I bought a pair of crampons last night after the Duluth Christmas parade..

EJB. You will be impressed with me on this... I parked right in front of the Kitchigami club side door!! I must be important..

I confess there was a no parking sign there.. but my granddaughters were in the parade and I promised them I would be there to watch them.

Luckily they were number 14 in the parade. I left before unit 16 came through... I figured if I got a parking ticket.. which I didn’t... it would be cheaper and easier than climbing the hill to the parking areas...poor attitude, I know.. sorry..

Back to the crampons. They helped..but when my SIL decides he wants to go... I am packing up my blind... Mr heater and heading out to never return...

I dread the climb to the crest and the slip and slide walk down the hill with full packs..

the only thing worse would be to shoot a deer and have to gut and drag him up and over the mountain.

oh, and then having to eat the deer...they don’t taste as good as the corn fed ones do.

I have seen one raven and two red squirrels today...on the bright side.. there are no dux here...

Next season I think I will drive up to Erlibrd’s and take them out for a $200 meal and buy her a bottle Dom Perigon.. it would be cheaper and more filling.

Great!!!! The wind is picking up...making it colder....

crap!!! My propane tank went empty...

I will keep you all informed of the rest of the enjoyment this hunt is bringing me.....if I don’t have a heart attack climbing out of here.

enjoy the weekend.

Sounds like a young persons hunting spot.

I had to take the front end loader out to get the big WT doe the buddy shot on my property. He is younger than you and had issues dragging it down the hill and across the creek. I just took it up the hill for him.
