Surviving Minnesota!

Frozen stiff here in Central MN. Yup -6 on my car's thermometer. I was a bit perplexed before seeing the thermometer. All of my non heated waterers were frozen stiff. I guess this is the harsh reality of MN.

On a better note, my breeding pens are set up and I ran my new hatcher for a couple of days, it seems these new hatchers like the room to be a bit warmer. So I turned up the heat in the hatch room.

Power went out 5 times yesterday evening. First four times were quick in sets of two, last one was about half an hour and then it came back on. Getting rid of one cockerel today, and hopefully a hen

Been outside doing chainsaw stuff and milled a fireplace mantle out of black walnut . Trying to get into the woods and pull a log down to the mill . Slippery out there . Going to make some ash privacy fence boards . Slab wood to the wood pile . Might have to use tire chains . First attempt to get up the slope failed .

I have been on this property for over 38 years and this combination of snow and wind is the worst ever. Front deck on the 2nd story of my house had over 6 ft of snow. could not see out the French doors.
The drifting was a nightmare. Over 6 ft in some spots. 4 ft as a minimum in my driveway and paths to the bird buildings. 2 days of shoveling, snow blowing and plowing and not done yet. Will be at least another day.
Many in the area have similar stories I assume.
Ralphie, did you see the video of the guy snowboarding down one of the avenues ? Looks like he is at some ski resort.

I cannot tell you how much I'm glad I'm not in that neck of the woods. Any place that has to cancel AMSOIL snowmobile races due to snow transportation issues of the teams can put a check in the 'HE-double hockey sticks NO' box for me.

Jerry is this Mantle for the Lake place? Wowsers.....walnut, eh?
No it is for a friend . Lost interest in doing more today . No sunshine . I will wait until morning when the ground is frozen to try to get a log . Too much trouble for tire chains . I have some walnut tree tops left from selling some logs . This limb was 10 inch diameter . So the mantle is rough cut at 5 by 8 inches by 6 feet .

I did not, I will search for it.

Was this worse than the Halloween Storm. That was worst I ever saw. I Had purchased HI-Lo acres and was living there at the time. We had just bought the motel at 210 and 35 and were stuck between the two places.

I feed my cattle and sheep and gave them enough to last a week, before work.

I could not get out to the highway, the county was not plowing roads, so the state sent a snow plow down to get me out when I tried to Tell them there was no way I could get to the highway..

Judy and the kids followed me out and spent the next few days at the motel.

We had 12-15 ft drifts across the county road.

My daughter sent pictures from her place on the east end of town. The road was unrecognizable.

The trees were a tad heavy with snow
