Surviving Minnesota!

I thought I’d poke my head in.

We’re on day 9 of our home bound. Go in for groceries and work 2 hours a day MWF the rest on line at home remotely.

The kids are playing their guitars, painting, ice fishing, and binge watching shows doing social media.

We cancelled trip. Kids are bummed about that. Just didn’t think we’d get back home or might get diverted to the armory for quarantine. The unknown is the bugger here.

Lots of people up north for the weekend. I can’t say I’m excited to see a bunch of folks from the southern counties heading to the northern ones at this time. Imho

We have 24 inches of lake ice and 18 inches of slow melting snow yet. High of 31 yesterday. High of 39 today. .

BC I totally agree those in the lower portion of the state should stay there, it really irks me!

I am somewhat surprised to read that some are not too enthused about visitors from the South. I don't care, as I will not go near them.
We have an inch+ of fresh snow and still snowing here. The chickens will not be favorably impressed with this weather. the forecast is for warming temps but much moisture in various forms to accompany it.
Have I stated lately that I am sick of the news which is being presented on TV ? It is worse than a blank screen in most cases.
Nice article in today's edition of the Duluth News Tribune about the Bald Eagle count underway. It seems that the raptor population in general is thriving. I like Eagles, but I very much dislike hawks. The hawks eat a lot of song birds in my opinion, and they also have a fondness for fresh chicken.

TbH if I had a cabin up north i’d Get away too. I guess. And i’d really wish my sister and brother in law would come use my parents house. My 20 year old nephew who’s been wheeling around The south metro like nobody’s business can stay there though.

Ed I hear what your saying... snowing the most gigantic flakes now. Hurray

I would like to be in Togo for the summer right now.. and maybe the winter too.

but my chickens would not be happy fending for themselves here. I know I could live on fish and government beef up there if I needed too.

But there is government beef here too, in case it gets that bad, and I have my garden and fruit trees.. I also know most the foraging places around here for plants and mushrooms..

It’s a hard choice to make, but I think we will just stay put here.

Some people from the cities have been coming up here to shop because grocery stores in the city have bare shelves. Our Costco has had bare shelves now as well.
Someone with a small cabin in the woods, I don't care if they come up and stay to themselves but i'm talking about VRBO's and lake homes owned by folks with more money than brains. They don't come north to stay to themselves they come to party and play and want to be seen. Those are the ones I don't want around. I clean cabins, lake homes and VRBO's. I caught norovirus from a rental house earlier this month and couldn't work for a few days, I don't get paid sick days. The last house we cleaned Thursday was for a man who had been traveling abroad, he was supposed to leave the house or stay upstairs where we wouldn't be cleaning but he greeted us at the door and told us he had been home 2 weeks and felt fine. Now they say a person could be infected 30 days before getting sick. They just don't know. I won't be working now and don't know for how long. No work no pay.

Idiots abound.

The last thing I want to do is see people right now.

That is the allure of the cabin. 10 miles off the highway on a dirt road that is minimum maintenance then a 2 1/2 mile long driveway to the cabin. It’s a place very few could find if looking for it let alone by accident.

They would also have to ignore all the keep out, private road and turn around now signs.

The closest house is about 8 miles by road or 2 miles across a swamp, either way it’s isolated.

But a garden up there would be almost impossible.. so here we stay.

Until we move in with you..

Do you have the sign about being protected by the S&W Security company? (Or is that too impolitic?)
