Surviving Minnesota!

I have eggs under the broody since the 8th, I haven't candeled. They are eggs from my three Buff Orps the cock is Lavender. I really didn't want to set any from him but couldn't find anything else. He is a stupid jerk but the broody needed eggs. We'll see what turns out...

It is a bit on the chilly side here this morning. Currently +4 . Clear sky and so the birds will free range once it gets light out. Limited ground for them to access, but they like out of the coop & run. Thus far we are not benefiting from global warming this winter, as the daily highs have been consistently below normal.

Here in the banana belt the snow is nearly gone, which is sure helping with the feed bill.

The Weatherdorks are claiming it will get above freezing this afternoon. It has been two days since the sap flowed.

I am one pint shy of 2 gallons of syrup. I had planned to Evaporate today, but I am afraid the valve on my tote is chalked full of ice. I am going to try and thaw it with hot water as the liquid would have a high sugar content. If I can figure out how to get it out of the block of ice.

Edited to add, I miscounted I am one pint over 2 gallons..
